Nice wheel! I have the one with the yellow stripe. I love it. Everytime I get in, I run my hands around the wheel. I am thinking that the OEM trim looks better than the matching alcantara trim...might have to change that out.

One complaint, I've noticed that the insides of my thumbs get a little red on longer trips when I'm using the paddles.

Grips like sandpaper excepts its nice and soft and smooth. So velvety and nice.

If it were butter, it would slide through your fingers.

I've heard that all you need to do is brush it with a soft toothbrush occasionally. I've had Alcantara seats before and had no problems at all.......the wear was excellent.......Phil

Good info. As I'm finding out, alcantara isn't good if you eat and drive. Jalepeno cheetos and BMW Performance Steering Wheel...not a good combo.

Otherwise, it seems to be holding up well...4 months so far.

The only fear I would have is moisture from bare hands breaking down the alacantra. These alacantra wheels are meant to be used in track cars where the drivers are always wearing racing gloves. That being said I wish I had one! Looks awesome.

I don't have sweaty palms but gloves would be nice. As I mentioned earlier, the alcantara is softer but the wheel itself seems to be a little harder. The inside of my thumb gets a little read after awhile...now someone play their mini-violin for me...

Either way, its a definite upgrade.

That thing is sexy. I'd be afraid to ruin the material. Nice pick up. I'd love it more in two-tone with some added perforated leather that can be abused lol

I would think BMW tested the wheel for normal wear and tear. Unless you keep lotions and oils on your hands all the time, the Alcantara should hold up fine. Speaking of gloves, I've been told by someone that gloves ruined their wheel. He might chime in at some point......Phil

Interesting. Maybe then it is made differently than the real racing wheels and formulated differently to be more designed for street applicatons..?

The material is not really under their control though. I had an OEM Alcantara CSL Steering wheel on my E46 M3 and it wore really quickly. I had to start using the ///M gloves for it not to wear as badly. Alcantara steering wheels are notorious for wearing under normal use. I'm sure there are precautions you can take to make it last longer but its a bit inevitable. I've got an Alcantara steering wheel made by Dallas Custom for my 996TT with a three-tone leather, perforated leather, and Alcantara which has been great so far since I can proactively try to not grab the Alcantara when possible.

Did you ever clean and condition the wheel? I think this is a big miss with most owners. As with all leathers it needs some attention from time to time. Bigjae's wheel has been on for 4 months but I'm not sure if his car is his DD. Mine gets DD duty so I'll definitely keep this thread active with how it's holding up.......Phil

Once I have a car again, I'm definately going to be adding this Did you order it through Momentum SW? I've not seen one with the blue. It would be awesome to have one that matches whatever the interior and/or exterior color is.
