scratch proof rims?
sorry if this has been over, but it dosnt seam to be in sight recently
is there such thing as scratch proof rims for sport cars? i judge this on my 03 previous and 05 current range rover, has scrapped the side gutter heaps while parking on the street and a friend even touched while driving at 40ish mph. it seams nothing i do can scratch these bad boys, these are also the OEM range rover rims. wondering if i can do anything like this on a BMW as my subaru rims got scrathced to death. love the ultraleggera-hlt oz racing rims, but a couple scratchs could make a grown man cry JB |

The wheels on your Range Rover probably didn't scratch because the tire sidewalls stick out further than the wheels. With sport cars this is usually something to be avoided with aggressive, low profile tires. This means the wheel is the first thing to hit the curb, not the tires. Any wheel that scrapes against a curb will scratch regardless of the finish.

This has got to be one of the dumbest questions ever asked on this forum. Sorry...

Really hard to scratch? Maybe...but scratch proof...no. Some material is stronger than others. Therefore, some will scratch with more effort and some will scratch with less. You asked about being scratch proof, not harder to scratch.
Sorry if it offended you, but you don't need much expertise to make a conclusion. I don't know what your gutter heaps and curbs are made of over there, but if they are made of concrete it sure as hell will scratch your rim (if you physically scraped the actual rim going 40 mph. If you have OEM wheels and tires on your range, its either that your tire side walls stick out further than your wheel (as Anthony stated). If thats not the case, then your tire sidewall is large and fully covers the heigh of the curb, and you probably just curbed your tire. Since you own a range rover, I assume you have knowledge about it. Those cars are made to last and are very strong, and the wheels may be made with stronger material, which may be the case. Go test your own theory: take a brick and rub it against your wheel. After that, if your wheel is good as new, congratulations, you have discovered scratch proof wheels my friend.

the reason is probably because of what was already mentioned...bigger tire sidewall/profile on range rover rims. there is no way to scratch proof your rims unless you get rubber rims. or maybe diamond.

Only time they got a nick was when I ran over this chick wearing this huge ring |
