You mean lack of MT on the GTR? MT is available on the R8.

I'm looking at the R8 and 997.2 (used).
I am amazed that the R8 holds value so well. Used, the V10 gallardo [equivalent] is cheaper - that's just nuts.

i am not looking for cheaper car that can outrun the M3... being loud, crude is just another thing why i love the GTR. love every angle or sounds it makes..

i also test drove the GTR before buying my M3 2 and half years ago. at that time i didnt do any research into it and got scared of what other people were saying. now i regret not getting the GTR. if i could turn back time i will and not hesitate and replace my M3 for a GTR. it is somewhat ugly though but to be honest. i was never into cars that looks pretty for some reason i go for performance meaning best bung for the buck.

The 6mt M3 while you still can. Once the manual tranny is gone..... Then move on to the gtr or any other mct-dct clutch car.

I will look forward to the new M5... I wouldn't trade the GTR for it, for any other reason than just trying something new... I appreciate all cars and brands... honestly... I did look back at getting another M5, when selling the F... I just can't handle 14MPG in a sedan... I feel like i'm being robbed every mile.

I like 500+HP... 20MPG... (and a backseat).

Worst I've seen on the GTR is 18.5 right now... best is 21 (Both City).

There is no doubt that the GTR would obliterate the M3 on all performance levels, if is as rewarding to drive as the M3 in MDM mode I can not say as I've not driven on yet.

It's also worth remembering it's not how fast you go it's how you get there I've had a lot of fun over the years in Integra Type R's (DC2, DC5 and FD2) they ere a hoot to drive not that quick but a lot of fun..

Neither the GTR or M3 set my pulse racing as a 'special weekend' car, both great all round daily drives though.

If it was my money, I would have a 335d daily driver and a F430 or GT3 RS in the garage as a special toy.

I wouldn't get the S. I'd get the regular and do a mild tune.

From what I understand from my reading (which is not too in depth), the S and the regular are almost identical [mechanically]. The tune (which I can do replicate) and transmission (which I don't want) are the main differences. AFAIK***.

get that M kool-aid out of your system (I have an M5, had an M3 and I have a 2012 GT-R Black Edition coming in next month).

the M3 and GT-R aren't even on the same level. like someone said, the GT-R is a supercar. the M3, well it's a great, iconic car, don't get me wrong, but there's nothing supercar about it.

I've driven the E92 M3 many times, at BMW's tracks in South Carolina and in France. I know what it's capable of and I've pushed it to its limits. driving an M3 and GT-R does not compare. the M3 is smooth and has finesse, but the GT-R has loads of grip and pure raw power--it will run circles around an M3.

price-wise, a FULLY LOADED M3 Coupe with ZCP would be $78k MSRP WITH free maintenance (we're not talking about Individual options). I know a lot of us get fully loaded, but there are a lot with minimal options, the M3 starts at $59k. a 2012 GT-R premium starts at $89,950 and add about $1k worth of options. a fully loaded (non-super silver) GT-R Black Edition is about $97k. keep in mind you have to pay maintenance on the GT-R. $20k between fully loaded and $30k between base isn't exactly chump change, nor is the maintenance.

laugh all you want about the GT-R being "spartan" and having a cheap interior. last time I checked, the M3 interior didn't look like a Bentley either. the M3 didn't even have the option of getting real CF. the 2012 GT-R has CF in the dash, STANDARD. the seats are Recaro (and they even say it on the Black Edition) and it also features French stitching. I don't know if you've sat in a 2012, but it's not bad at all. the touch-screen dynamic display on the GT-R is also high-res for 2012 and looks great. sure you can say all you want about iDrive, but they're comparable.

as far as modding and performance, there is tons of power still left on the table in the GT-R. a simple midpipe and a tune will get you about 40hp (shouldn't be more than $2k). how much do you have to spend to get that from an M3? stroker? FI? just to get to the GT-R's stock numbers.

and, although I love the M3 and think it's a great car, they're a dime a dozen. in LA, they're around like flies--you see white ones everywhere. how many M3's come to the United States per year? AT LEAST 15,000. Nissan sends about 1,000 GT-R's to the United States every year. the car has had the best residual value for any sports car for the last two years. there's a reason why you can buy an M3 below invoice and dealers are still marking up GT-R's by $5k - 25k.

They both get to 60 in 2.9 seconds, but I believe Fifth gear did a review and the Porsche won. I wouldn't say it "trumps" the GT-R.
