Get Fresh oil or no?
Been on vacation all week getting my car ready for spring after sitting in unheated garage since Oct. IDrive says oil change due in 13000 miles! or at 9/2012. Car is going to dealership tomarrow for a few things. Should i get fresh oil or is it a waste of $ and time to do so?
Also had 2 oil changes last summer and only put on 6k miles. But 13k miles till next change WTF. is this message because engine wasnt running when i looked up my service requirements in IDrive?

I just changed my oil after storage in a heated garage so yes I would say change it asap. Unheated means there could be water in the oil due to moisture. Also 6 months of storage even on new oil would warrant an oil change.

Forget water in the oil. That boils off after a very few highway miles. Bruce |

As long as you drive the car long enough to heat the oil enough, it will always boil off the water. Unlike brake fluid, engine oil isn't hygroscopic, so there won't be much water in there even after storage. Bruce |
