Cold Weather

Agree with the cold weather posts....mine starting creaking from the drivers side door about a week ago when it started getting cold up in Toronto. Window seals are noisy too.

Crappy Roads in Chicago too and I can confirm this annoying rattle in the back of the car, 2009 e92 M3. It may be related to the cold weather and/or the fold down rear seats. I fold the seats down quite a lot and the rattle started when the temps dropped and when the seats are up. I have not heard the rattle (yet) when the seats are down.

So I was in my back seat yesterday with the rear side panel off to fix a noise that comes up and disappears when I touch the panel. I noticed as I pulled up the seat bottoms that they were a little loose around the front piece that is painted the body color. I applied some felt tape and now they are much more secure. I didn't get as much creaking through uneven driveways, etc.

My creaking from the rear vent area is much worse when it is sunny and things have had time to expand. It almost sounds as if the creak reverberates throughout the whole roof where the pillars meet the roof lining. It seems that every thing rattles in the car, but when I have a loaner 328i and it is solid over anything, it pisses me off that my M rattles so much.

If you remove the center light cover in the back, the creaking lessens, and if I take off my C-pillars, the creaking lessons, leading me to think that it has something to do with pressure on the headliner piece.

The nav hub rattle is an easy fix. Unscrew the two screws holding it in place that are under the lip of the hump, and pull out the unit. Apply some layers of tape or some padding, and slide it back in. Easy as a DIY.

I think it's more for us e90 guys. If you drive an e90 and say you don't have this, YOU ARE LYING OR DEAF!!! :-) it's even worse if you are lowered and drive with M on all the time.
This is EXACTLY what I am talking about. Driving on the fwy, roads, totally fine. Going into a driveway, speed bumps, starting from a dead stop, the doors creak so fcking much it drives me crazy.

Other than obvious rattles/creaks that seem to come up in most any car, it seems as if most E90 owners experience this the worst. It's a creak in the front/rear doors that is worse when it's cold out (blistering 74 in L.A. today), and mostly noticeable on driveways and speed bumps.

Oh well, doubt there's much that can be done about it. Sure you can take it to the service department, but the odds that they fix it right, let alone on the first time is slim to none

I had a similar issue in my driver's side pillar the day I purchased my M3. Went away though after a couple of weeks.

I'd encourage everyone to hound their dealer to get it fixed. No need to live with that nonsense for the price we all paid.

So you took it to them to try to get fixed? What did they do? I think I might at least try to se eif my service center can fix this.

My 2011.5 E92 creaks like crazy too. Since day 1. I told my SA that it has more rattles than the M Z4 I came from, which makes no sense given that that was a convertible.

I have a new loose rattle (2500 miles now) sound now coming from something beneath the ashtray. That's in addition to one from the rear seats, the left A-pillar, and the glovebox. It's really the only thing that stops me from truly loving my car. HATE IT.

I have creeks from time to time (Not enough to make a post about it) Going down my driveway, I'll get some creeking. When the car is cold it creeks, but as it warms up the creeks go away. Not a big deal. I'll get a rattle in the morning when I first start the car up and the rattle is my garage remote with it's metal clip attached to it rattling around down there in the storage compartment on my driver side door. Now that's annoying!

In your first post Ed Loh mentions he even gets creeking in what I presume is a stock E90/E92. I notice you have Eibach's on your car. I would have to assume anyone altering their suspension on these already "stiff" cars is going to make creeks and rattle louder and more apparent. Hek, even with the addition of my Akra Evo I can tell that I have more rattling going on around the car. Nature of the beast. My suspension is stock.

I have an annoying sound coming from my upper console near the sunroof.

Took it to the dealer and they got oil all over my interior.

'11 E92 with 2600 miles here and get some constant rattle from passenger window when going over light bump etc,. but this I can ignore and live with.

It is the OTHER wining-creacking-metal rubbing sound from somewhere off rear "axle" or else where???,- when making slow 90-degree turns... this sound is just hard to explain but very noticable, even more so when car is cold, but after warm up the sound is still there when turning very slow in 1st or 2nd gear... What could it be? This E92 is ZCP if it makes the difference.... could it be tires rubbing against panel? Axle? I am trying to make a video with this sound to post it here,- it's in the works... I really, really don't want the dealer to start pocking around the car for weeks trying to get this fixed...

Does anyone have any idea what this sound is?

Yesterday and today (22f-32f in am) my car started rattling at the left eyebrow (above the speedometer/tachometer) only on cold starts and for 10-15 min then once warm, much better. I didn't read this thread before but before I post a new thread I found this one and was laughing when I read other posters saying the same thing. CONFIRMED
What I don't understand is, where was this car built?? GERMANY???!! not Arizona right.

Interesting point, but my creaks, and likely all the other E90 owners, seem to be experiencing them in the doors and pillars. Little to no noise whatsoever when driving, but rather when starting from a dead stop, speed bumps, and driveways.

those of you with creaking issues, have you modified the suspension? or have crazy subwoofers installed? I know when i lowered my last 2 cars, the quiet ride went down the toilet and had creaks on every speedbump or inclined driveway

Modfied suspension yes, but the crekaing is from isnide the doors, don't think it hasanything to do with suspension. Seems to be a pretty universal issue with E90's.

Yes i have this slight creaking sound when making slight 90 degree turns...just noticed it today when the radio was off and taking a left turn from a standstill...car was already warmed up. I hear it in the rear seat behind drivers side..for sure

kinda like the sound you get when you sit on an old wooden chair..creak or squeak...doesnt sound like its from outside suspension, for sure its inside the car....I have no freaking clue what that could be...when i look back there i see nothing...

car is 2011 ZCP with 950 miles on it

Mine ( 2011 M3 sedan)rattles from the passenger and driver back door area from when it was new. I just think it is part of the "M" experience. My 08 335i sedan never made these rattles and squeaks nor did my wifes 08 335xi sedan. I ignore it, but I think it is due to a lack of insulation to keep the weight down.... I may be wrong though....
Still an amazing car!!!
