This is an argument used by the CTS-V crowd as well. The Ring favours cars with high hp because of it's long straights and high speed sections (along with chassis setup). I will always look at the "slalom speed" stat as I think that it directly correlates with the seat of the pants handling.

Obviously the M5 handles amazingly for its heft to lay down that time but I would bet its slalom time (fast transitions) will be lower that the M3 (R&T has the e92 at ~72mph).

If I am proven wrong than I retract all statements and pronounce the F10 M5 King of the Land

This is such a tired rationalization.
When another car is faster, well my car handles better in the "twisties."
When another is faster on the track, well that track favors cars with more HP.
Now you want to look at slalom speed.
It doesn't really matter that another car is faster or slower than another car by 5 seconds "on the Ring."
At the end of the day, go out and drive the damn car and judge it for yourself.
If it puts a smile on your face and you look for excuses to "go the long way" home, then that car is a winner...

Problem with the Panamera is eventually you have to get out of it and look at it.

I'll be clear: I wasn't demeaning the CTS-V. I think it defies physics with its trick suspension. My general point was there is more to handling than the Ring times. It seems to be the bar that everyone is measuring against and I was just including another variable (slalom).
I agree with your last statement that each person will pick the car that suites them best.

Me too. For Most cars, you'll have someone who likes how they look and others who won't. Till now, I have not met anyone who thinks the Panamera looks good!!!!

I was starting to wonder if people actually liked the styling of that beast. It's a great car and selling well. The interior is gorgeous, especially if you never try to carry more than 4 people. But every time I look at the exterior, I wonder what the 'F' Porsche management was thinking when they signed off on that abomination.

None-the-less, it's on my short list for the next car. I just won't be looking back at it, EVER, when I park it. And the view from the interior is awesome.

BMW fanbois to the rescue in this thread...lol.

The Pana TT has more presence and panache than any car that BMW makes or has ever made.

Looks are subjective, but love it or hate it, it definitely stands out and exudes the true definition of luxury performance.

+1. The Panamera has all of what you named, as well as quality that no BMW will touch for likely another decade.
Not to mention, BMW couldnt sell a car at the price range these (turbo/turbo S) cars sell for. They have trouble selling M5s/M6s for 6 figures.
Whether you like it or not, its sells like crazy. They sold over 9,000 of them the first 3 months they went into production with ~50% of them being turbos.
They have set a new bar for performance luxury sedans.
5GT should not exist.

I honestly do not think that BMW should be selling cars in the 6 figure range. I think the reason why there is no 8 series is because people won't cough up the money. I gotta hand it to porsche for selling the panamera for so much and being so successful! They truly have redefined what a "lame" sedan can do.

The great apeal of the M5 is it's engine, which will easily be tunable to 700+ horsepower. The M5 is also very attractive in every aspect to me but the size is both the main flaw and the deal breaker for me as a contender for my next daily driver in a few years.
I would imagine it would the perfect daily minus the gas mileage

it's not to hard to find E39 M5s with less than 50k miles for less than $20k. Go for it dude

I believe the two BMWs you mention are equally hideous. This doesn't excuse the horrific styling that Audi (fishmouth grill), Panamera (attrocious exterior styling) and others perpetrate on us. It's as if there is a disease out there that only afflicts stylists. I believe it started with GM when the Avalanche and Aztec came out. It may have started earlier with the Datsun B210.

And my current favorite ... styled by an 8 year old or a marketing major.

I was shopping them a lot earlier this year but I decided to jump on the E90 Sedan before they end production.

I'm looking at ED on a Lemans Blue/ Rust Brown M3 Sedan (Oct. or Nov. pickup).

Guess I could look at the E39s down the road a bit.
