Back-to-Back Driving Comparison of E92 M3 and Shelby GT350

I'm a bit of an M car fanboy that currently doesn't own an M car. I sold my F80 M3 in favor my GT350 and haven't regretted that decision for a millisecond. I hosted a gathering of like minded people in the Carolina/Tennessee Mountains this past weekend. My friend Brandon had his E92 M3, so I thought it a good opportunity to get behind the wheel of another one. I had a LeMans Blue 2011 that I traded for my C2S back in 2014. I haven't driven one since.

This was the car I sold. I wished I hadn't. Mine was a no Nav, manual seat, 6MT, Comp package car that will be hard to replicate in the used market someday.

My dream has always been to have an M3 as my daily driver and a GT3 weekend car. Then comes the current M3 that I couldn't dislike any more and a Mustang that is incredible. This messes up my plans completely. Although, I love BMW, I like to think I'm an unbiased car guy that is willing to admit when a car is better. I know what I like and am unwilling to compromise:

Linear Power
High Revving
Steering/Handling over Power/Speed
Lighter Weight
Manual Transmission if Possible (I'm on the list for a 6MT 991.2 GT3)

Some of the questions I had leading into this drive were:

1.) Does the E92 M3 hold up power-wise to the higher horsepower cars of mine in the GT3 and GT350?
2.) Supercharge and DCT or could I live with a bolt-on modified manual?
3.) Does it even make sense to have an M3 and GT350 at the same time? Are they different enough?
4.) How would the size of the GT350 compare?
5.) If I was fortunate enough to own both, which key do I grab first?

I know this is an hour long video, but my friend Brandon and I think through the answers to all this stuff and more. Oh...and we are driving down one of the great roads in America.

Just saw your vid this morning, I can tell you are hungry for another M3 E92! I do hope you get another one, I think you will ...

Great youtube channel as well, I am close to pulling the trigger on ordering a foam gun from your site as well too!

The one that got away....

Always loved that E92 you had, it was beautiful too. There are definitely some clean examples out there that are manual. They simply command a little bit more money.

Interested to hear your thoughts when I have the time to watch.

Except for the GT3 part, I'm with you. I expected to buy M3s until no more liquid dino was available, but BMW came out with the F80 which lacks any soul. That also messed my plans up.

I now have two E9Xs. I bought the second one a month after testing the M4 ZCP on track.
E92: bought new in 2013, individual MCB, manual, cloth manual seats, 6MT, ZCP, no nav
E90: bought late 2016, slicktop, DCT, cloth manual seats, no nav

I am a huge, huge BMW fan. I love their cars, even the non Ms. We're a big family and all the extended family's cars are BMWs as well because people expect me to help them when they run into issues.

Still, even though I got another E9X M I would still sooner buy an F80 than any of its competitors (C63S, RS5, Giulia, etc). The issue crops up when American cars have beautiful NA V8s like the GT350, the Camaro SS 1LE, the Corvette Grandsport... this makes my future path more confusing than it was before

I only recently discovered your channel on Youtube and watched your comparison video in full yesterday. Love your channel's video format, delivery, and honesty.

I'm a recent new owner of an e90 M3. Coming from an e92 335, I have a similar base as Brandon and can agree with both of your reviews on the M3 thus far in my ownership. I actually have a friend that has been dead set on an F82 M4 and don't really have the heart to share your video to him. Albeit his list of likes may be different to yours, and I can see appreciating the F82 as being 20% better than a 335 in every way as opposed to the completely different personality that is the S65.

Great post, OP.

Many of us here, like you, have been BMW and M fans for years, but are still here (on the E9x M3 boards) for exactly the same reasons.

Nothing BMW has made since can quite match the fervor and the soul of a high-revving motorsport engine a la S65 (and by extension, all those that came before; i.e., S85, S54 etc.)
When married to a great-handling chassis that can also double as a practical daily-driver, the formula is perfection.

Looking forward to watching this later.
