My 2 cents
Well those was indeed hilarious pics . However, I for one choose not to be too hard on this car, nor unfair. Calling the IS-F designed by "mediocre engineers" is simply BS. Being an (ex) engineer myself I'd love to know how many are +1-ing this post have ever even taken a single engineering class? I like the looks OK (yes lots of copy cat here). I don't mind the nose at all. The oddest thing about the appearance to me is the large size ratio between height from bottom of side sill to bottom of window sill compared to bottom of window sill to roof line (i.e. the appearance of a squashed green house). The performance will be quite good and the price OK, prob. much less than E92/90 M3. Sure we know already with 95% confidence it won't be much of an E92/90 threat but I think in general folks are being way to hard on this car. Also a great driver in this car would probably be able to out drag or track most of us in an E92/90 M3. Keep that in mind as you bash away. Lastly don't forget how good competition is for your next ride whatever it is.

Lexus and Toyota's brand loyality are pretty strong. A lot of IS owner would probably prefer the IS-F over M3 if given a choice. If you ever visit IS forums they are all betting or demanding IS-F to beat M3's performance. Each to his own but I not worried the IS-F will be able to touch M3's performance.

Is it supposed to be a factory version of widebody or just a different body on regular IS? If it is "the wide body", I will for the effort that they put into it. But , car looks like the cute(?) white animal in 17th post. hahaha |

No engineering classes needed to know that the car doesn't have half the engineering that the M3 does...they are just adding onto the chassis.
Its a joke to me...period. |

Feature is not equivalent to engineering
Come on now. Calling the car a "joke" is clearly an overstatement. I'd love to see an experienced Toyota track guy in the IS-F hand you your a$% in your new M3 . I like what I have seen and heard about the new M, esp. compared to the IS-F, as much or more than anyone. However, the presense of particular features is not really the same as the level of engineering. Yes in general more features require more engineering, but to say the M3 has LSD and IS-F does not (or whatever feature it may have that IS-F does not) is hardly the same as saying the M is more "engineered". It is simply more featured and more speced. So indeed you don't need an engineering background to say one car has more features. Even an engineering background would not really tell you much about which car has more engineering. Only a comparison of all features, engineering man hours, innovation, testing, R&D, etc. would tell you which car is more or better engineered. Perhaps I am being a bit pedantic but I simply prefer honest and precise language. If you still really think the IS-F is a joke you should join Toyota's IS engineering team for a week (wouldn't that be fun). Cheers.

Adding to chassis...

Also IS-F has different motor, suspension, body panels, tranny, interior, wheels, tires, brakes, etc., etc. Sounds a lot like the way the M3 is engineered from the 335i to me! I am no Toyota/Lexus/IS lackey/traitor but come on at least be fair. |

I just saw the new C-class pics in the "other cars" forum. The IS-F is looking like a much better option to the M3 than the C63 now. The new C-class is a huge disappointment.
Looking forward to the reviews on the IS-F. Not that the car rags have a whole lot of clues.... |

& the exhaust can probably be fixed by fitting an aftermarket unit. It is certainly an alternative to the M3. We are talking about 3500lb sports GT cars here, not "real" sports cars. The Lexus is a contender along with the M3. |

"The coupe, however, will be ... eqquiped with a 5 liter V8 engine producing 450 hp and 383 lbs-ft of torque." Now if Toyota can put a 5-liter V8 450HP engine in the supra why can't they put it into the new IS-F? looks like 450 HP may be the goal for many cars releasing next year (M3, C63, ISF, Supra, GTR) Last edited by coaster; 01-25-2007 at 02:42 PM.. |

I have a Lexus IS350 now and I think the IS-F is a huge disappointment. I'm sure it will perform well but its design is a joke. After the IS-F pictures were released a couple of weeks ago, I put my name down on the waiting list for the new M3. Thank you Toyota/Lexus for the IS-Fugly, it helped me decide what car I want next.

Not a big fan of the IS-F, and never was. However one stupid thing that i like is the led liceanse plate lights, it looks bright white and rich, as opposed to the much yellower lights of most other cars.

IMO, there are a few design curves of the IS-F that really ruin the whole thing. I'll do my best to explain......
Lets look at this picture: Right below the taillights the rear bumper almost shoots up completely parallel. This might not seem like a big deal but, I'm a fan of symmetry. Now look right behind the front wheel, right above the GT-R slit. You see that design line..... Now draw an imaginary line to the back. Very sloppy. Also, it seemed that they completely forgot about that design line half way through the idea. Also, what's the deal with that bump that comes out of nowhere right behind the rear wheels??? Again, sloppy. Look at the lines of the rear door. Weird Goofy exhaust. Again, IMO. It was a good 1st attempt but, it's still seriously fugly. |

The exhaust sound left me wanting. I didn't hear anything. Perhaps they needed to get higher in the rev band.

WE WILL JUST HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE WHAT THE IS-F HAS TO OFFER EVERYONE IS LOYAL TO WHICH EVER CAR COMPANY THEY LIKE. ITS ALL UP TO WHAT TYPE OF PERFORMANCE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR IN THE CAR AND HOW MUCH MONEY YOU ARE WILLING TO SPEND. NOW AS FAR AS THEM CALLING IT A M3 KILLER THAT IS GOING A LITTLE OVER BOARD. NOW THE AMG C63 IS AUTOMATIC AND FASTER THAN THE M3 BUT THE M3 OUT PERFORMED IT. SO YOU CAN SAY WHAT EVER YOU LIKE ABOUT IS-F, I WILL STILL STAY LOYAL TO THE BMW M3 BECAUSE WHEN IT IS ALL SAID AND DONE THE BMW M3 BE IT COUPE OR SEDAN IT WILL OUT PERFORM THE IS-F. LET'S SAY THE M3 IS FASTER AND OUT PERFORM THE IS-F, I AM SURE THE GUYS IN THE TOYOTA & LEXUS FORUM WILL GO AND TUNE UP THEIR IS-F TO TRY AND GET REVENGE ON A M3 ON THE HIGHWAY AND PUT IT ON youtube.com BUT DON'T WORRY I WILL BE SURE TO GET REVENGE IF THE TABLES ARE TURNED AND TUNE UP MY M3 WITH A HAMANN KIT ( OH AND DON'T WORRY MY M3 WON'T BE DRAG LIMITED THANKS TO HAMANN) SO EITHER WAY THE BMW M3 WILL WIN AND IT WILL BE MONEY WELL SPENT :-) SO BRING IT ON IS-F THIS IS ONE LOYAL BMW M3 FAN THAT REFUSE TO BE BEAT. MY M3 COUPE IS ON ORDER, AND A HAMANN KIT SOON TO FOLLOW.
