Hello folks,

I am thinking of getting a spare. I think it's sooner or later i will get a flat with all the construction sites around me. I had a close call last week, where i discovered a nail in the rear tire, but luckily after i pulled the 1/2 in. screw, my tire didn't puncture. I have a 2012 E92 ZCP.

A. Should I get a front OEM ZCP wheel 245/35-19 (around $500) shipped, with OEM Tire Michelin PS2 (around $400), to match what's on the car right now?

or

B. get a low cost solution, cheaper aftermarket rim, and a cheaper tire ($200-$300), since this is only a spare?

I am taking a winter rim/tire with me in the summer months plus a light weight jack an da summer tire/rim with me in the winter.

I've had two punctures in both my rears within 6 months of each other. Once had to tow, the other I barely made it to the dealer. Hard for me to find these Tires at local shops becase I guess they don't stock this size much. Anyhow, now I just carry a can of fix a flat in the trunk.

Did think about carrying a spare too but then is have significantly less trunk space

if you already have winter tires/wheels then what 6spd suggested would be a good idea. just take along one of your winter tires with a small jack and some tools.

Is it advisable to run a spare tire application especially if its a different size? What size are the winter wheels again? I am SURE it's much smaller in overall OD than say people with 19" wheels?

Well, I sure as hell wouldn't let my rear diff work with different size tire for anything more than just to get the car off the freeway to the nearest tire shop where majority of the time won't have the proper size tire in stock anyway.

Don't get me wrong, It sure is an inconvenience to have a flat, but to each their own.

I picked up a front wheel and a Michellin Pilot SuperSport tire for a spare, but figure that I'll be able to hopefully get back to the tire in most cases using the mobility kit. Mine is mounted to a Pit Pal spare holder in my garage.



My concern was that when I had my first flat, the only way I was able to get going was my other car. The car had been shipped from one dealership to another out of state. I think that the tire had already leaked and the mobility kit had been used, so the valve stem was jammed. In another year or so, I won't be able to just grab the two seater as I'll be shuttling two kids to school.
