If I order a new 2009 E92 M3, what discounts can I expect (if any)?

Ok here is my current situation. I bought a E46 M3 brand new back in 2003 and paid what the dealer was asking which was MSRP. No discounts, just saw the price and gave him the cash. Yes foolish of me of not doing any bargaining... I was basically what every car salesman wishes their customers would be!

Now I am seriously thinking of buying a '09 M3 coupe. I configured it on bmw.ca with an MSRP of $80,400. What discounts should I expect to get off MSRP? What is this dealer "invoice" price I frequently read about? How do I find this invoice price?
I should note I will be trading in my current 2003 M3 and paying off the difference entirely (no financing/leasing). The stealership I will be going to would be Budds' in Oakville or possibly the one in Mississauga since those are the closest to me (I'm in Burlington), but wouldn't mind hitting some stealers in Toronto if the deals offered are better.

Please, give me some pointers on being a better negotiator and how much MSRP I can get the salesman to take off without being annoying to him

why don't you try to get a 08 with huge incentives?

I am not sure if it is posted here but I got the invoice prices and check the attachments.

Also, if you like to save money, you will have to go out of your way to different dealers. It doesn't matter where you take the car to service it.

Are there any more '08 E90's remaining in the Toronto area?

I HIGHLY doubt any E90's left...possible some E92's and E93's.
In late October, there were only about 10-15 E90's left.

Last I heard (last week, a friend was looking) there are only E93s left in Canada... all of the new 2008 E90/E92 M3s are gone.

Check Maranello, I heard from a mechanic that they have some M3's left in their garage. Don't know what kind are left though.

3% is pretty normal even on an ordered M3.

I got one from out East so I'd say Canada is cleaned out.

Why not legally import a US M3 that is a 2008. They are all over the place down there.

Get what needs to be changed and pay the $$$ and it'll still be cheaper than getting violated for an '09 car.

GL

PS. I'd call BMW in Victoria too

Thanks for the info guys.

I'll call Maranello and Victoria. As for all that beautiful candy in Montreal, I can't, I need a sedan, I'm gonna be a daddy soon, also my parents are getting old, they can't drive, and I can't see my mom clambering in to the back seat of a coupe

LOL make your wife sit in the back seat with the baby and your mom in the front the odd times you have your mom in the car. Your wife would probably prefer sitting out back with the baby anyways.

As a sidenote... Its VERY easy putting a baby in the back seat of the coupe especially since BMW is smart and put controls for the electric seats up by the headrest. I have my baby seat out back and have no trouble with it.

I don't know if you are gonna have any luck finding 08 sedan but e92 and e93 is certainly possible, you just have to check around.

Yeah man, get it in the US. That's what I did back in September when they weren't offering incentives and the finance rate was like 7+%. Warantee carries over too, so no need to worry about it!

All you have to do is get the DRL's programed from a dealer and a new speedo which reads in kilometers ($2200 for both) and a letter from BMW head office ($500) approving the car for use in Canada.

$2700 sounds like a lot but I still saved myself 10 grand doing it like that. Mind you, 2 months later they started giving incentives and rebates but I would have never found the colour/option combination I wanted so I guess it was still worth it.

I agree with you that it did make sense to buy in the US before but I think it doesn't make sense anymore to buy it from the US these days.

Because the dollar is down, you can't finance or lease it if you buy it from the US, and not to mention the hassle of going there and bringing the car here during bad weather. Also, I am sure the cost of buying from the US is more than the $2700 you mentioned and there is other costs involved such as traveling expenses, RIV fees, duty, and other misc. costs.

You're right! There are more costs involved and right now it probably wouldn't as worth it.

I bought the car and got a friend who owns new car dealer here in T.O. to do the brokerage and arrange transport. I paid $120 to have the car inspected by a 3rd party inspector who gave me a full report on the particular car I was buying, making sure that the it was not in an accident and had a clear carfax (even thought it only had 800 miles when I bought it but you never know).

Then I had to pay state sales tax, plus PST/GST at the border, AND 6.1% import tax because the car was not built in the US or Canada. Transportation in a closed trasport truck was $1200 and that's about it.

All in all, I still saved 10 grand!!

A US M3 optioned the way I want it now costs almost the same as a Canadian M3 with the same options due to the decrease in the Canadian dollar. This is before any of the add on expenses you mentioned as necessary to import the vehicle and the 6.1% tariff on non North American produced cars. While you might be able to get a better discount in the US than in Canada it doesn't seem worth the hassle.

I wonder if anyone has any input on some questions I have about the availability of 2009 M3's in Canada?

1. Are the number of M3's imported into Canada likely to decrease in '09 vs. '08? Does anyone have any official/inside info on this or just reasoned estimates?
2. How much of a better deal are you likely to get on a car in stock vs. a car you order?
3. Does anyone know how the 09's are selling so far?

Thanks lebreeze, I'm pretty fixated on an E90, but what's your dealership? Maybe I'll drop by and see if they give me a godfather offer.
