To those who know better:

Just returned from my first track day at Barber with Rezoom. Had a GREAT time, and got to meet Porschefile...awesome guy, and an even better driver....BTW thanks for taking me around the track to show me what a M3 can do in capable hands.

Anyways, back to my question. Today I put my regular set of wheels and tires back on my M3, and I noted that there was some rust on some of the lug nuts, so I go ahead and wipe it down with some grease to clean it.....

Then I reinstalled the wheel without really wiping the grease off. I go to roll the car out of the garage, and I hear some clicking noises from the wheel that I just installed and realized that I had just installed a wheel on with grease on the threads of the lug nuts.

I go ahead and remove the wheel again and wipe the grease off the threads, and reinstall the wheel....clicking noise is now gone.

My question...did I damage anything? Should I go to the dealership to have it inspected?

did it click all the time or only during cornering, I get a clicking sound while cornering which is alot more pronounced when the car is dirty, its very stange
I havnt yet taken the wheels off and cleaned behind them but there is grease between the wheel and the hub.

clicked when I moved the car....

the clicking stopped when I cleaned the lug nuts.

I'd be surprised if anything was damaged but you definitely need to clean the grease off thoroughly with solvent or something.

Never heard of greasing the lug ... dirty or not.. i would take that out and fully clean it.. clean the inside as well.

Never lubricate or put anti seize on lug nuts. It changes the torque spec.

clean them off and let dry. Make sure the studs are clean also.
Torque and then re torque 1 week later.

if the hub area is dirty or rusty just use a wire brush. GL.

The clicking turned out to be the rear rotor shield which I accidentally bent backwards while installing the wheel...resulting in it rubbing on some suspension components...totally unrelated to the grease on the lug nuts.

Do not grease your lug bolts they are torque spec'd dry. The metal could yield too much if you tighten to 88 ft lbs wet and could loosen itself if not tightened enough.

This..you are never supposed to use any lubricant on your lugs

I would for added good measure spray with a brake cleaner to ensure no left over grease remains in any of the threads./

oh yes...an entire can of brake fluid used cleaning the lug bolts and threads...quite a pain...

Learning can be painful.
