Windshield Laws

I guess I'll bite the n00b bullet on this one and say I didn't know that you couldn't tint the windshield in the state of VA.. Any of you NOVA guys or anyone else is the state find a way around this, or have any advice for me? I wanted to go 35% all around and something really low like 75% on the windshield. Anyone out there with a tint strip across the top?

Pre-emptive thanks for the input.

I have 30% on all the windows and 75% on the windshield. Looks clean and classy.

Unlikely 'til you get one. LEO's are out in force this year looking for anything & everything, to ramp up the revenues.

In VA with sunshading medical waiver, you can get 35% all around and 70% on the front windshield. I have this waiver but only went with 35% without the tint in the windshield since we're required to have the stupid state inspection sticker and I dont want to risk the tint getting scratched when replacing the stickers.

I've tinted the windshield on every car I've ever owned. I just had an 80% tint put on my wife's A4. It's one of those special UV filtering brands. I can't remember the name. All the tint guys will put it on, but they warn you it's not legal. In FL it keeps the dash and interior from getting torched.

It is illegal in every state as far as I know. Ironically, I was pulled over in my S2000 for the first time in my life questioning simply the tint on my car. I have 35 on the side and back and 55% on the front on my S2000. He asked if the front was tinted, sat in the car, and said "it looks a lot darker from the outside." He let me go.

Last summer when I got pulled over and he wasn't able to give me a speeding ticket, he gave me a tint ticket

but missed the windshield

it's hard to tell

Easy to tell if they stick the ticketbook inside the car and look thru the windshield at it... Happened to me.

Naw, CHP is just notoriously picky about tints.

Simple. Cops don't like to get shot on traffic stops, so they want to be able to see into your car. Tint makes that harder so if they notice you're going to get hassled.
In TX we've got inspection and registration stickers on the windshield, plus I have a sticker for parking at work so it'd just be a giant hassle. Luckily I rarely have to park outside anymore and when I do I put up a big cheesy sunshade in front.
