Flange on left header not welded?

Hello,

I removed me exhaust today and the left header doesn't have a welded flange, the right header's flange is welded on and can't move. Please see pictures below.

Not sure if it's supposed to be that way. IIRC mine has them both fixed. E46 M3s has them like yours to give u adjustability if needed. Not a big deal really

I thought they were both removeable, though one or both may be frozen in place and require a tap to free.

They should both be removable. I was putting a new x pipe on a few weekends ago and had to adjust the left one.

It's a strange setup.

Yes, it is. Also if you don't want it to rattle or give you trouble it's best to get a new gasket from the dealer (they are really thick, silver donuts) and replace it otherwise that flange and header to pipe set up can rattle.

Let me help you out. It's not welded. Its held on with this (See photo). It's just the other side has melted. I had to chip mine off. When you replace I would replace the copper nuts and bolts as well. I hope this helps.

Did you find the flange? Can’t find it anywhere online and it doesn’t even have a part number in the realoem diagram.

Yea I thought I posted a link to a guy on eBay selling them. He had like 20 of them. I ordered one and I know another guy ordered a few but here is a pic and the link to his auction.

Thank you for that link! Just saw your reply and I ended up buying earlier a flange from ECS Tunnimg for an e46 M3 which seem to fit the e92 as well. The flange works but its much thicker and heavier.

Not sure but maybe go down there and make sure that the bolts are tight? Maybe try to shake the pipe and see if you find any excessive play?

For those out there looking for that flange... after I got the one from ECS T. for an e46 M3 could work as it fits the pipe, but the bolt holes are not as big as the stock one, they can’t fit the stock bolt (M12 I think), it only fits an M8. So... I guess you can make it work, but with the disclosure above... I ended up buying the one suggested from the seller on eBay (oem).
