Updates from S/C'd M3 owners?
I am just wondering how the cars are running since the installs?
Any temperature issues? Also, what gauges are you using? Any pictures of the set-up? Thanks!

I have had my AA kit on for a couple of months. The kit has been flawless. The car has maintained the DD characteristics that I previously enjoyed but I know if I put my right foot into it a beast is unleashed! I have had no issues with engine temperature etc.
I started off with Stage 1 and recently upgraded to Stage 2+. The guys @ Bimmersport Automotive who did the install and Omar @ AA have been great to deal with. I have also done 7 track days with the Supercharger (6 with Stage 1, 1 with Stage 2+). Car performed great and the extra HP is very noticeable, especially when it comes to flying down the straights. I installed the P3 Vent Guage as it is pretty stealth and a simple install. It has some nice functions and you can flip thru them with ease. All in all, I am very happy with the purchase, I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. My only regret is that I didn't get one sooner! I will try to find some pics but may take a few days as I am out of town until Friday. |

I've had my AA Level 2 for a few weeks less than Jay, but my impressions are pretty much the same. Car feels OEM under 4-5000 rpm, then pulls like a freight train. I don't have extra gauges as I don't track the car regularly like Jay does and the AA kit is generally designed for longevity and has many safety redundancies both in terms of parameters and features.
Engine bay heat is a bit increased, but that's because AA uses aluminium plenum/piping to act as a heat sink, which means the engine bay gives off heat for quite some time after shutdown. Oil temperature has gone up maybe 5-10 degrees, but is well within normal tolerance at around 100 degrees. Had a Porsche enthusiast drive the car this weekend - he's had 39 P-cars since the mid 70's and now has a Targa and an RS4 ragtop. He was blown away by the smooth drive and the tremendous raw power ready on tap. Said I would have a real problem replacing the car. Only way up is a 911 Turbo or better.

If you're ever in montreal let me know. Would love to see your beast. Bimmershop is great. I drove there for my AA tune in 09.

Thanks Jon!!
You've been so much help to me in the past couple of years, that I feel obligated to drive across country for the install!! But I think my bosses wouldn't like me taking 4 weeks off

I added that link because I wanted an my fellow E9x M3 owners to see that link. It was not to badmouth any specific tuning outfit. I know the human body well and I know what it is capable of doing. The human body has limitations and one can exceed these design limitations by using anabolic steroids as an example. Using a Supercharger on the S65 increases horsepower and torque - but at what cost? There is always a cost when one uses anything - however, the cost tends to go up whenever design limitations are exceeded. My E92 M3 is supposed to produce 400 odd horsepower. When I exceed that by 50% there will be consequences. Sometimes the consequences are worth it while at other times they are not. It is up to the individual owner to weigh the pros and cons of each move he/she makes & then make an informed decision. My posting that link had to do with helping myself and others make an informed decision. I am going to do more research before I decide what to do. I am pretty happy with my M3 in it's stock condition. I may or may not try to change what BMW M division decided to do. I do know that BMW designed that engine to do. Do I want to try changing that and then deal with the consequences? I can make that decision for me but for nobody else. I can assure you that I will make an informed decision and then I will take responsibility for my decision. I will also offer others the benefit of what I have learned. I would like you to tell me what guarantees you give for your work. I know that BMW gives me a 80,000km / 4-year warranty. What is your warranty / guarantee if you were to Supercharge my car? Do you stand behind your work? If you do then what is the warranty? Last edited by enfield; 07-06-2011 at 06:15 PM.. |
