Congrats on the purchase. I love both my mustang and my M. Rumor has it that the ZL-1 is gonna blow everything off the road though, even the new cobra coming out just because of its magnetic shocks. Wonder what a pulley swap will do to that car.... Any thoughts of putting a blower on your pony or do you think that will just over power the car?

Unless your relationship with the dealer completely sucks, BMW will take care of you. Heck, many times they provide goodwill parts for vehicles out of warranty, you just need to know how to ask. As for what kind of warranty the OP will be getting for track-related failures, well, hopefully he will never have to test that out. OP, glad you like your new car. I cannot ever see myself paying $48k for a Mustang when my M3 was $55k out the door, but I like the fact that Ford and other manufacturers are putting some pressure on BMW.

Yeah, I looked at this way too. I paid $47k out the door for the Boss LS. It would have cost me $57k out the door for a stripper M3 on ED. So I paid $10k or 18% less for the Boss LS. That's a lot of dough and a big difference to me. Especially for comparable to better track performance in the Boss.

Congrats: the Boss 302 is a great car and has real cred. I love CAR mag's description where they suggested a 'Stang had mated w/ a Porsche RS. And for the performance it's a steal and it's *great* that the dealer welcomes track use. Enjoy your Boss! ps seriously, after writing this I saw the 'no congrats' comment - hope this is a modicum of recompense.

I would have to say its a lot more than just suspension. Have you seen the Youtube videos of all the phases that were put in to design the ZL1? Take a look at those 5 videos they call "Phases". Aerodynamic's , balance (51/49 front/back weight) , brakes , 24 hour track testing, etc... It's a very exciting car and when you see what company it's in with the 7:41 Ring time it's damn impressive. I would really be surprised if the 650 HP GT500 can get anywhere close to that lap time. It's exciting times and the first time an American car other than the Z06 or ZR1 has impressed me.

In December at VIR, there were 5 new ones present at the track that day.
They are coming out of the woodwork as a new popular track-able car. Unfortunately, the drivers were also new so I didn't get a good comparative feel for how fast they were. enjoy, diversity is good.

I put my name on a 2013 ZL1 last week. Finding a 2012 allocation for MSRP wasn't working for me so I decided to wait for the next round of cars. I should be able to place my order this summer for a fall delivery. The added time will also help me scrape together some additional funds. |

interesting articles http://www.fastestlaps.com/cars/bmw_...n_package.html & http://www.fastestlaps.com/cars/ford...ss_302_ls.html but notice the m3 has a better rating from fl.

I'm really looking forward to seeing what Ford brings to the table in MY2015. Word on the street is that it will be an end to the retro-styled Mustang, switching to their new "kinetic 2.0" design language (read: aston martin-ish front grille) which could translate very well into a Mustang.
I also fully expect the 650hp GT500 to be only a very marginal real-world performance increase over the Boss 302, simply because the Boss is a more balanced track car. The Shelby's have always had issues laying down that power, particularly on a road course.

I agree with you about the traction issues with the current GT500. I had both a 2011 GT500 SVTPP and a 2012 Boss 302 and I much preferred the Boss because it could actually put the power to the road. The Shelby just had way too much low end torque for the stock suspension and tires to handle. I've heard the 2013 GT500 will have launch control and some other electronic aids to help with traction. Unfortunately, it looks like Ford can't fit any wider tires on the 2013 due to body and suspension constraints so it will be up to the computers and any suspension tweaks to help deal with the 100 extra hp. |

I have a soft spot for Mustangs and the Boss makes me lustful. I drove a friend's Kona Blue Boss with the stripes removed. It drove and sounded awesome. Without the stripes it was much more subdued. I can't say I like the LS stripes but no denying it's capabilities.
Congrats! |

Ford vs Bmw
I'm pretty sure if you track your Mustang regardless of what name they slap on it and you break it. Your warranty just like Bmw's will be nul and void. Just try and offroad your F-150 and break it....denied!

Boss Leguna sec Stang and the m3
I've driven both and well I feel they are 2 different rides. The BMW just feels so balanced, light and tight. Just down right impressive. The M3 just feels like I'm driving pure refinement. The Mustang, even tho it is hands down the best Mustang I've driven and I've owned 6 of them. Seems like it always has a mean but not lean muscle machine. Brawn and brute force comes o mind.
Both are great but drive them and they do belong to two different types of owners... My new M3 changed me from a Mustang owner to.......well a dedicated m3 owner for sure!!! |

The mustang is much less expensive however, the interior certainly makes up for that change in price, at least in my opinion. I just think the mustang gives up alot to have the performance that it does.
