Need info (Hawaii)

So I got a ticket here in Vegas for having an out of state drivers license (Hawaii). So heres the deal, I travel back and forth between the two for work often. I want to fight the ticket on the grounds that I am in Hawaii as often as in Vegas which is true. Does Hawaii have laws pertaining to out of state drivers licenses? If so I can argue catch 22. Please chime in.

Interesting question. In which state is your primary residence?

you got a ticket simply b/c you have a out of state license? that doesn't make sense. You didn't have any other moving infractions?

I believe the law is that you need to establish that you reside in hawaii for more than six months out of the year. I don't think this is a state specific law- my parents had the same issue between idaho and california. GL with the ticket tho

On the other hand you get to spend half your life in Vegas and Honolulu. Not a bad situation.

I have a permanent residence in Hawaii. Would utility bills and such suffice to establish residency? And I go to Indonesia on surf trips for my vacations. A week on a luxury yacht traveling from island to island to find waves, all the food and beer you can handle, awesome fishing and diving. I highly recommend it even if you dont surf.

If you told the cop you work in NV, they pretty much consider you a resident. You're considered a resident if you maintain a vehicle in the state or accept gainful employment, blah blah blah. That kind of stuff. I had the same issue. I had FL plates and license but worked in NV.

Just type "how to change my state residency" into google. Its pretty easy to do. There are even outfits that cater to full time motor home people and the like that do this work.

If you run NV plates on your car with a HI license, you're gonna have to just pay the ticket. If the cars a rental or registered to someone else, fight the ticket by saying you were just on vacation in LV. If you have any Nevada paper trail, bills, taxes, etc., I think you're pretty much stuck with it.

Yeah Mentawais is awesome! Lances is my favorite wave. But the reef can be nasty! Watch out for surgeons table.

I had some friends score on a trip over there, and for sure want to go back– I think I'm tagging along next time. Was always curious if there were other guys on here who surfed (and knew what they were talking about) Still refuse to take the M to surf btw, looking for my 90s mini-van to fit the bill.

When you live and work in Hawaii year round, it's not really paradise, just a place live like any other, the only the real difference is everything is overpriced.

But you can't beat the year round great weather.
