Cracks in tires
BMW Canada has apparently told its service department managers to check all M3 tires for cracks. My car was in for the 2000 km run-in service, and there was an entry on my work order that an inspection had revealed small cracks in both front tires.
Apparently a couple of cars in Vancouver had serious issues with tires. My car was the first one delivered in Calgary. It was an early December 2007 build, arrived in Canada January 22, but I wasn't allowed to pick it up until after the official launch (I picked it up on March 10). My salesperson says that he heard a rumour that speculated that some of the tires developed cracks as a result of sitting for a long period of time. I understand that some tires have been replaced under warranty. |

I can believe it. Stupid that BMW Canada held the cars for so long. They made that happen, only fitting they foot the bill for them.
Hurry up and eat all the tread off your tires!

That's nonsense. Tires can sit there for months and even a couple of years without cracking. Flat spots, yes, cracks no. Millions of garage queens can't be wrong. Imagine the legal ramifications if this was somehow remotely true

I have been told that on the first service, a thourough inspection of the tires will take place again, with replacement as necessary. Hmmmmmm..........sounds like BMW/Michelin are taking this pretty seriously. Though they are stepping up to the problem, it doesnt give me too much confidence knowing that the technology on these expensive run-flats is not meeting a very high level of safety. |

I can confirm the michelin tire problem. I was suppose to pick up my m3 with 19 wheels on April 4. The sales manager told me as I was driving to pick up the car that my car as well as two other that they had previously sold have tire problems and the cars are grounded. The manager does not know how long it will take to get replacement tires. It seems that the tire problem may effect a great many m3s. I would suggest that anyone with a car now or about to pick on up discuss this issue with the service department.
