Yes its another... WHAT would you do Thread
Been looking at different cars recently as you all know.... I actually just came across a SWEETHEART deal.
Here is the deal.... There is a 2008 Viper SRT-10 with 3200 miles on it CHERRY!!!!! for 57k. It BB's at 70k. Sell the M3 for a car I can drive only 4 months out of the year, but own a VIPER or .... keep the M3 that I can drive 12 months out of the year.

I thought you were trying to downgrade vehicles?? Not go up in cost and maintenance, and have to get another car for dd when you can't drive the viper.

I don't care at all for the Viper look, but a lot of people adore it. I'd keep the M3 because it's a bit more driver friendly and you won't have to buy another car for day to day transport.

Vipers can be had for about the same price as Honda Accords with slightly higher mileage, and the reason the price is so slow is that the demand isn't there and most people want to pay much less which is why they depreciate so quickly. Vipers are nice but there's a reason you don't see them often, they are extremely difficult to drive, it takes 2 months just to learn how to not stall the engine in traffic and the gearing is not designed for daily driving, it will not be a lot of fun.
If we were talking a ZR1 then it would be a different deal, but your M3 will simply be much more satisfactory day to day. Don't let the "good deal" fool you into making a bad choice, it's cheap because nobody wants it.

I say think deeply about this.
Ive driven a viper before, you cant do the same things you do in the m3. It requires ALOT more of your attention. However its really fast!! |

are you 65?
all the vipers ive ever seen were driven by old fogies.....not that there's anything wrong with that....just gives me the impression that its more favored by the older gents. |

Tampa Automotive Club had all the cars on the road, you would have seen my black M3 in there too if you were there. On the Viper, its your choice entirely but I looked at buying a new one a couple of years ago and it falls into the same trap that all American cars do; they feel and look *very* cheap. I moved over to the US from the UK about 5 years ago and very quickly realized I could never part with $100k on a car made so poorly. I changed recently from my 911 C2S to the M3 and considered a Shelby GT500 as a replacement instead. They've come a long way but the major reason I didn't bite was the dealerships; coming from a Porsche and then being thrown into a Ford or Dodge dealership when you're spending upwards of $60k just isn't right. It's the same reason that I didn't buy the GTR instead either, I resent the idea of being given a Sentra when I drop off my GTR every 6 months for service!

If this was a z06 for 35 I would say yes, but it is an older mans vehicle in a sense and its ...price is to much and its up keep as well.

Damn that sounds like a great deal on a Viper. I didn't realize you could get them that new with that low of miles for that price. I say jump in it.

DD a viper? I think it'll get a bit old. You'll be sick of the rough ride and noise in about a year.
that's one of the reasons I went from an Evo to the M3. I needed some more comfort. The viper would be an awesome addition for a track car. Is it a vert? |

Vipers were cool about 15 years ago. Since then, there are far better offerings.

I think it is a bad idea.
That said, I don't see why you could not DD a viper year round. I certainly would give it a go if I landed a later model one with TC for a good price. Great car, but not an M3 replacement. |

Came back to Canada found a year end good deal in October on a 2008 Z4 30is and purchased that car new. Over the next 8 months I found that the quality of this US build 2008 did not compare what I saw in Germany (things kept falling off - housing around the rear mirror plastic panel just above the ashtray etc). I sold my M3 (big mistake) and I traded up to a slightly used Z4 35i build in 2009. Took a US road trip all the way to California then had a flat and found that I developed cracks in both my rear wheels. Kicked myself for ever getting into a Z4 and selling my M3. Well we all screw up. I did it big time. Mind you we did have a wonderful time with the Z4 35i no question. The thought of having cracked wheels again convinced me to turn back the clock and trade the Z4 in for a nice M3. So I did and now I am a happy camper. Bottom line ... keep your M3 you know what you have or trade in for a new one or find that super deal ... nothing beats a M3 it is a great automobile. Cheers, Rolf-Dieter
