i don't think many have experienced that, otherwise BMW would have a huge class action lawsuit against on their hands. i think the obvious answer here is to take the car in for service immediately, and insist that they do a thorough inspection. that's not the kind of problem you want a cursory inspection on.

Damn that sucks. Glad you didn't hit anything. I hope this doesn't show up for a lot of 2011s.

Be prepared to hear "unable to duplicate issue" from the dealership though

That is unheard of... and dangerous. We don't have a locking steering wheel/column on this car, nor electric power steering, which could have a mind of its own. I'm baffled . Please keep us posted man.

I'd have it flatbedded to the dealer. No sense endangering your life or others in a case like this.

its most likely your steering rack that needs inspection, it happened to me once on the 528i, and i cant get it to happen again. have the dealer throughly inspect your steering rack/column

Do you have comfort access of do you insert the key into the slot. Maybe (just guessing) the key popped out slightly and locked the steering wheel. Was the motor still running when you stopped?

Yeah man, FLATBED it to the dealer. Dont drive it. Call "roadside assistance" and they will tow it in for you. Don't risk that happening again....holy sh#T!
