Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta - first 200 miles = bad oversteer/rear tramlining
Just put these on my 2011 M3 coupe wtih 20k miles. 255/35/19 up front, 275/35/19 in the back.
I haven't hit the 500 mile breakin, but i've put 200 highway miles on the tires. I'm coming off the stock ContiSports which I enjoyed. Everything else is stock. Now, I'm getting incredibly tight turn-in (a little too tight IMO), but then the rear tires don't seem to bite until about a half second later (tramlining?). The result feels like snap oversteer with a hinge in the middle of my car, with a ton of body roll (whereas none existed with my last set of Conti's). Steering seems much much lighter, and requires tiny corrections. At highway speeds, it even feels a little difficult to make a long wide 10 degree turn without having to make corrections. This all just feels terrible on the freeway, and in 40-60 mph twisties. Is this just the break-in period??? Will this go away? I checked to make sure all 4 tires were put on correctly, the right direction, etc., using pics of other posts and everything checks out. The tires have gotten nothing but rave reviews, but I hate them so far. HELP! Thx |

Check the tire pressures. Maybe something is off.

Tire pressure is 36 all around, so that's not the issue. It seems to maybe getting better w more mileage, but I'll let everyone know in the next few days. I commute 120 miles roundtrip everyday

I have no experience with this Vredestein tire, so my comments are from general experience only. The driving issues you describe sound as easily alignment related as a tire problem. I assume the alignment was not changed, but it might be worth checking. Based only on this tire's tread pattern, I would expect it to be a bit noisy, and more prone to tramlining than the Conti. I've never had tires that required more than 100 miles or so to break in, assuming you drive sufficiently aggressive to scrub them up good and get some heat in them. But I suppose different release agents used can penetrate the rubber diffferently, so maybe that is your main issue. If you are getting sharper turn in and steering response, that indicates a stiffer sidewall, but that is inconsistent with the perception of more body roll. Unless, the grip level is so much greater to cause it, which I doubt, since the Conti has decent grip when heated up. I would still be interested in the alignment.

MANY people have been very happy with these tires, regardless of the price. Then throw in they're half the PS2's and it's an easy choice.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

Thx everyone. Ya I've checked out that thread many times, but just couldn't believe a break in period would fix this. No one mentioned these issues during the break in - maybe I've just never experienced tires that need this kind of wear before they are effective. 300 miles and counting...

I'm on these tires right now, and I've experience it too. However, I currently use my tires at 40psi all around, and what it took was some getting used to. I used to turn in more "violently" with the stock tires, and I've learned to ease up on Vredesteins. Its just a matter of getting used to them. They really do perform extremely well in both wet and dry. Give em a couple more miles, and try running them at 40 psi.

That being said, I'm still considering other tire choices when it comes time to replace these. Not because I don't like them but there's always stuff I want to try. PSSs, maybe back to PS2s in a 20" size or even Conti DW.

With only 200 miles on the tires you haven't gotten rid of the mold release yet, probably. I have loved these tires with none of the symptoms you're reporting.

As many others have mentioned above, give them another couple hundred miles. We have sold many sets to customers with nothing but praise. We also have ran them on our shop M3 and love them
