Hennessey VenomGT ups the ante, too....

...nice to see you can get 2 of these for the price of one of the special edition Veyrons....even better to know that if you have engine trouble, it's essential a Chevy engine in there

Top Gear needs to run the Hennessey on the VW track they topped out the Veyron, and on their test track. Need to get some real numbers on this thing!

+1.

The Veyron was engineered to keep you alive at those incredible speeds, and I would just not trust my life doing 250mph in a tuner frankenstein special.

Ask yourself this, in which one would you rather crash, if your luck runs out at some point?

at 250+ mph, if you crash, the results would be the same...
with that being said, I think my chances of getting on the front page of the news is a lot higher crashing a veyron

Perhaps. Modern composites in racing these days do have a high survivability rate at speed, so I guess it really depends on what you hit on your way to slowing down.

So both get to extreme speeds. But only one was carefully engineered to work safely at that speed, with practically an unlimited budget. It has active aero and suspension, tires are a special recipe rated for that speed, as well as the wheels - and Bugatti makes you refresh both periodically. The core of the car - the carbon tub - is bespoke and didn't start life as some Lotus.

+1.

At 250+ mph you might as well not wear a seatbelt. It doesn't matter if the body of the car survives, your brain will be slushed around your skull into liquid jelly... along side your other organs.

But yeah, if I had to choose which car to crash, I'd crash the veyron as well though.
Then it's settled. He who crashes a Veyron first, WINS!!!

I preface my comments with the following disclaimer: I've never been a fan of Hennessey. I remember the days of him screwing over many a Viper owner in his early days as a tuner, and that has never sat well with me, so I'm still a bit prejudiced against him. That being said,

1) Both cars have active aero and suspension and have been engineered to work safely @ speed
http://www.autoblog.com/2009/09/01/e...m-gt-supercar/

2) the Bugatti has a c/f tub, the Lotus has a bonded aluminum tub.

I don't think it's fair to compare this car to a Veyron. This car, to me, slots in w/an SSC or Zonda, as they are all low volume, coach built cars, whereas the Veyron is backed by VW's deep pockets. Is the VenomGT as well-built as the Veryon? Probably not. But I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it, either. For purist, it is a low weight, high HP machine, that has a few creature comforts. As for the comment regarding the tires and wheels, other car in that class of speed (read: SSC), doesn't require a wheel change, and it runs on PS2s, as well.

This car is on par with a Shelby SSC Aero. Also capable of intense speeds.

But I am with the masses..Veyron is king!

Which is exactly why i'd be scared to run it at over 250mph.

Bah, I want to have a heart attack banging a supermodel when I'm 80 while crashing a Veryon into a Hennessey Venom GT.
