Loved my e46 M3 but do not miss it. My wife always complained of "riding in the stagecoach." And on the track the e92 M3 is so capable.

Agreed. I still look at the E46 M3's and admire how beautiful they are. Something about the wide-ness and perportions that the M division just got right. From a car design perspective, to me it's just about perfect. Instant classic. Wish I had the means to own both. I'd figure out how to hand the E46 on my wall.

I love the looks of the E92. It makes the E46 looks outdated. |

Granted the E92 is more updated design, the E46 was simply better execution.

The same things are different on the E92 M3 as the E46--front valance, side vents, wheel flares, wheels, quad pipes)--plus the CF roof. It stands our enough, IMO. It took me a long time to warm up to the fish mouth intake, though.

I do miss the driver orientated cockpit though, the beautifull even scale in the speedometer and the amber lighting.
The E92 M3 interior( dash) is just a little bit boring compared to the E46 M3, still can`t get used to the different scale in the speedometer, looks weird, even after driving it fot over 3 months now, I do like symetrical systems, and that`s a no go here IMHO. Now the diriver orientated cockpit was a realy outstanding BMW feature, never ever this had to be changed ( It is just so BMW, like it`s kidneys and doublle headlights, change that and they will kill the brand BMW IMHO) the sad thing is; Audi is playing copy cat and has them in there cars as we speak. |

One other thing about the E46 I miss, cinnamon! Looked so good on my old vert.
The E46 was just more of a classic design, more understated while still looking special, than the wild scoops and non-organic shapes on the E9x. Kind of like of design for F1 cars have evolved and grown all sorts of odd shapes and appendages (until next year). Those things are all there in the name of aerodynamic "progress" but the aesthetics keep getting worse. (Don't even get me started on the 09 cars...) My before and after... |

^ your vert was clean, but congrats on the upgrade.
They are both really nice cars, IMO they both have their advantages and disadvantages. One thing that I don't understand is that why the ///M emblem on the odometer of the E92 doesn't light up? Makes no sense at all...

e46 is still a looker, better looking than the E92 in many ways especially the CSL. But the power, ride and luxury of the newer car has moved the game on.

+1 on the dash - absolutely loved it especially the instrument binacle and the steering wheel. Had an E46 more or less identical to Magpie21.

I miss the looks, color and rasp of my 06 E46...but love the power and refinement of my E92. Really wish I could of kept them both, but the wife put her foot down cuz she didn't want to give up her XC90.
BTW...this is a great thread!

Not being an ///M owner, I cant say much about being in the E46 M3, but the ZCP M3 was about the best looking exterior on any M car.
I love the current E92, but the fact that the new M3 is now offered in 4 doors is a big enhancement over the E46. |
