21k miles too much for a 2010?

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and to BMW in general. I'm currently looking at a 2010 e92 M3 that really has me intrigued. The only problem I can see with the car is that it has a little over 21k miles, which seems like a lot to me for a 2010.

Would that be considered too many miles, or more than would be advisable when buying a 2010 M3?

Thank you

Doesn't seem too high to me. From my understanding 12-14k is the norm so thats below average depending on when the car was purchased. People on here have 50k+ w/ superchargers, I'd say this car is pretty reliable.

Depending on how early a production was that may only be 10k/year which is pretty common. Car is still like new, I'll bet!

If the only problem you got are the miles, then 12K miles per year which is 1K miles a month. (10K or less is best because most leases go 10K miles a year but I'd say 12K is best because 1k miles per month is easier to work with instead of 8XX miles). If you ever get the e92 M3 and you still feel that the car has too much miles on it, avoid using it. However, you bought the car for you to drive, not for you to only look at.

Also consider asking when the e92 came out of the dealership so that you can count more accurately. It won't be fair for the car if it came out late Dec of 2010 or if it's retrieved late 2009.

I'm hoping to get an e90 M3 around 2013 (to replace my 328i) but knowing my mom, it's not happening...

It's also important to know how it's driven!

Don't forget 2010 models were available in 2009, and it's now almost 2012.

I'd run from it. It's on it's last leg. These cars only last about 40k miles before they fall apart.

I have a 2011 with 10k more than that on it already.

Not at all too much ... mine a 2011 has 22K on the odometer, it's a car that begs to be driven my friend you will know this once you own one

My former M3 a 2002 e46 had 31,000 KM on the odometer when I purchased that car in 2004 ... so make sure ...

A) you get all the service records
B) if it has not been checked by a BMW dealer then have that done
C) if it is a BMW certified car then there is no need for A or B above

21,xxx miles is nothing. I say that's pretty light for a 2 year old car now. So long as it's the right price, the mileage is hardly ever too high, in my opinion.

Well, I obtained a little more info on the car: apparently it's been sitting on the dealer lot since June, the front bumper has been repainted, and it has a moonroof instead of the carbon fiber.

I have a 2010 e92 at 21,500 miles. i picked up on november 09. so basically it does about 11k per year.

i think its not much at all.

This is the stats i came accross online on United States Department of Transportation - Federal Highway Administration

http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/ohim/onh00/bar8.htm

Average Annual Miles per Driver by Age Group

Age Male Female Total
16-19 8,206 6,873 7,624
20-34 17,976 12,004 15,098
35-54 18,858 11,464 15,291
55-64 15,859 7,780 11,972
65+ 10,304 4,785 7,646

That's still to many miles.

I got my 2010 in 12/09 and right now I have less than 9,000 miles on the car.

Picked my 2010 up 09/09, have four vehicles, don't drive it in the Winter, live 3 miles from work & still have more miles on it than you. WTF?

I got about 15k miles out of the rear PS2s, 275/40-18 on RAC 18x10s. The fronts aren't going to give me much more; too much negative camber combined with wimpy driving is wearing out the inner tread prematurely. My winter PA2s are wearing like iron. I got over 40k miles out of them.
