BMWhat App and bluetooth/wifi ob2 Review

Just bought the car and wanted to

Read BMW codes
code vehicle
Clear codes
Monitor parameters

So i bought the bluetooth ob2 adapter and the BMWhat app.

I cant belive everyone dosent have this!!!! I was able to find codes that the dealer couldnt(misfire cyl 1),clear fault codes,Monitor parameters( bat level on off/engine temp idle/under load and code vehicle for a ton of things, one being side mirror up on locking.

I think is is a must for all owners.

I'm surprised the dealer tool couldn't find a fault code. By any chance do you remember the fault code number?

i started a thread on it for the misfire.

i even went to the bmw dealer and watched him check the key, but the fault was in the car. i even cleared the code to see if it was old and it came back up

I also use and like the BMwhat app. Pricey but it works and I don't have to carry anything around to figure out what code just got thrown, rather just need to keep the dongle in the glovebox and my phone which is on me anyway. Very convenient. Wish there was more coding available but he doesn't seem to be putting much time into that part of the app. What coding there is has worked great. Wish I could code out the low fuel warning with the app though.

Agree the diagnostics are more comprehensive than typical scan tools. Already paid for itself keeping me away from the stealer when it Helped me pinpoint a dirty steering angle sensor. The regular obd2 scanner I have was clueless. And miles cheaper than the Bavtech cable though much less functionality obviously

I'm using the white wifi dongle you can get on amazon

K, so I found BMWhat in the app store for apple. How does this work? Can a newbie figure it out easily?

Which ob2 adapter do I need to get? Is it accurate? Can I code something like brighten the angel lights etc with it?

This is awesome if it really works as advertised.

Wow, nice. Downloaded it about 18 months ago and it didn't work for E9x M3s and I contacted the developer and he said he was working on it. Looks like he was successful!

I can confirm this is a great app. So far, coding is great. I've been bugging the developer for EuroMDM. Please feel free to join me in asking him for the euroMDM option in coding!

You think the key stores all fault codes? It stores a lot of data, but not that. It will tell them if you have any check control messages including lights out, fluid low or increased emissions, service due etc.
