Oil changes

i-Drive 30,000km in between oil changes seems way too long. I think 5,000-10,000 km would be more appropriate and was thinking about taking her in. What are other people doing?

How much do the indy's charge? I refuse to go to stealerships!!

When it breaks, you toss it out and get a new one right? I was planning to keep this one as a coffee table for the beach house though, geez!!

BTW, you are all useless!!!

haha well it's hard to tell if you need to change the oil, you can't even check the colour of it since there's no dip stick...maybe search around the US forums since they seem to think they know everything haha

I agree.

I like to change my oil every 5,000km in my car (E46 M3). The problem is, that 5,000km has taken 2 years to achieve. So, why would I want oil sitting there for that long?

BMW thinks that it won't need an oil change until its 25,000km interval. Now, that could take 5-10 years based on my usage!

Therefore, I make sure that I change the oil at least once a year or every 6 mths.
I order a genuine BMW filter and my Castrol Oil and get a friend at BMW.

I get the oil and oil filter changed on my e92 335i in between each scheduled service. I get it done at a dealer and they charge me only ~$250.

You do understand that oil colour is no indication of contamination level right?

Generally speaking I change every 10,000 km or 1 year which ever one comes first. That being said if you're taking your car to the track then you'd expect to be changing your engine oil more frequently.

I change mine every 6 months, regardless of mileage. I do a lot of short trips, so a lot of cold starts.
