Dealer put in too much oil

So I got my 1 year oil change and my oil level is reading " > max". Car runs great. Should I take it in to have some drained or not bother?

I'm getting my annual on 8/18 and I am scared shitless 'cause of all these threads. How hard can this be, you do this for a living. Pay attention, this engine is a little pricey.
Good luck LarThaL, I hope I'm not starting yet another one of these threads shortly.

If it says max you're fine, but take it back if it's overfilled. BTW, I've noticed that the difference between dead-centered and max is only .25L.

I'm topping off again tomorrow after getting the "too low" warning this evening. I only add half a bottle and it puts me at about 75 to 80% on the gauge. I feel like adding a whole bottle...uhh, like the computer says, would put me "over."

Maybe tomorrow I'll put in 3/4 of the bottle and see what happens. I'll let you guys know. My bet is it will probably take it to full.

PS. My cowbell is also acting up again lately...food for another post. Sensitive oil level gauge....check. Cowbell, check.

BMW of Mount Laurel did my annual low mileage oil change today. There were no issues whatsoever. Very professional service as always in my experience. My oil level is where it properly should be and the oil cap is fastened tight with no leakage. In fact the engine bay is SO clean and free of oil that I question whether they did the change at all. Especilly since I only have 5k miles on the car. The SA was astonished by the miles.

it appears if it's critically high, there should be another level of warnings...

yeah, it's pretty hard to just drain out 0.25, once you unplug, the oil comes out in a hurry, then it's back to trying to top off without overfilling...lol.

Yeap, hence the reason why they need to drive the car about 3-4 times before they get it right. It's pathetic... I really hope they go back to dipsticks in future generations.
