Extending Warranty

Check out Safe-Guard's Vehicle Service Contract. They are a third party, BMW approved warranty company that's reasonably priced. We got platinum plus coverage on our E90 M3 through them.

One thing to keep in mind: Make sure to extend your warranty BEFORE your BMW warranty expires. Warranty companies charge a much higher premium if you're out of manufacturer warranty when activating an extended policy.

Better to spend $3G's on one and not need it rather than have to spend $10K+ or more on fixing your car and wish you had the warranty.

Thank God for USAA. Mirror matched warranty plus option to extend past deadline for half the price of the BMW one and its already covered my $400 battery.

It might be worth noting that the OP is in the UK.
To the OP you will need to talk to your dealer - if you have a BMW extended warranty you should be able to extend it every year for as long as you own the car.
However note that it used to be that if you let the warranty expire you couldn't then renew it - I don't know if thats the case now.
The policy covers you for everything except wear and tear...worth the money considering big ticket items are very expensive.

I'm with USAA and have my car and home insurance with them. They are top notch and have never in multiple years done me wrong ever. I Didn't even think to get a car warranty through them ! I just got a quote for 60months since the date I purchased the car for 2,199 dollars covers everything! Except maintenance of course. The equivalent plan through BMW is 6k +. For drivetrain only through BMW it is 4k+ so this is 2k less than that and I get full coverage!

I would recommend everyone look into this, however the catch is this: USAA is only available to military veterans, children and spouses of military personnel, and widows of military veterans.

Darkone, $2,199 /5 years "since you purchased the car covers all repairs". Did you read the small print, what's the catch ? It seems a bit too good to be true. How easily will they foot the bills and approve quality oem parts ?

I am going to have to read it closer and talk to representative tomorrow. I will let everyone know. I have never had USAA not take care of insurance claims so if I were going to trust and outside warranty this is the one.

Dude, earning 10% in a 3 year window is not hard. Just look at some of the ETFs and mREITs out there. Anyways, back on topic...

Talked to a USAA representative today. This plan is no joke. No catch. No fine print. Comprehensive! On top of that when you sell the car if you don't use it they will credit you back the difference on what you paid and what you used. Say you paid for 60 months and you then sell the car in 30 months you get half what you paid back! Or you can transfer the warranty to who ever purchases the car. Keep in mind my car is a 2011 with really low miles ( only 13k) so based on my usage and year the price is lower. If I waited until closer to when the warranty expires and I had higher miles than the price would be higher they told me.

Again this is a military focused company only for members so you definitely get a special deal.

Cheers buddy am going into the BMW dealership tomorrow to discuss what's available to me; only had the car a few weeks so still plenty of the one year warranty remaining but just want to bee well informed and equipped of knowing what's the best option for me regarding covering any potentially expensive parts and repairs.. Just clarify to me wear and tear by definition in the realms of car ownership?! Thanks man..

Wear and tear is anything that can be fairly assumed to be a maintenance item or something that is subject to wear...such as brake pads/disks, clutch disk/flywheel, hoses, fluids, seat leather that sort of thing.

so they cover blown engines? May have to go this route....my warranty is almost up (in Mar of next year) and I only have 13k miles .... should be a break vs 3 yr old car with 40k miles (fingers crossed)

yes sir they do! engine, transmission, electrical systems, you name it. Definitely worth the peace of mind

You better read an insurance contract fine print rather than word of mouth from the agent, they want your business anything they say for you to sign is long forgotten years later when that engine breaks and you find out they do cover it.. but only partially..
