That was great for telling the difference when adding the Dinan center section. Pretty much sold me on it, with one reservation.

If I get a stage two Dinan Tune, will I still get the readiness codes when I put the stock center section back in for emission testing? I know I won't get the CEL; know I'll have readiness codes in memory; but do the secondary O2 sensors still work so that I can pass an emissions test with a stock center section and a Dinan stage 2?

You know, I'm not sure. But if I had to guess, yes you'd fail readiness even if you had your stock XPIPE back on.

Thanks.

I called Dinan today and was told I'd have to reflash to the stage I or stock software to pass emissions.

Just skip the tune. That is what I'm doing. Albeit for different reasons.

I've considered this. One option is to install the Delete-R to kill my CEL. Then when I put the stock center section back in, O2 sensors will work and I shouldn't have any codes (other than in memory).

I just don't want to leave any power on the table by not using the stage II Dinan tune. I'm not sure I buy into the opinion that stage I and stage II are the same tune with the only difference being the O2 sensor switch.

Well if power is your concern, then the Dinan tune isn't a good option. There really is no advantage to doing the Dinan tune over say Evolve or ESS. The Dinan software will void your warranty, no matter what anyone says...any software will. So if I ever go with a tune it will likely be either Evolve or ESS. But for now, I don't want to void my warranty. In this case the Delete R seems to be the best option. I believe the tune will net you about 10whp.. the main advantage is the smoother power band I believe.

You should ask them - I've always wondered this as well. Seems like most tunes:

-lean the engine out a bit
-increase timing targets in some areas

I know ESS and Evolve both claim to adjust Vanos. Never seen anything from Dinan on it though...

I'd say a big advantage is having the dealer as the one that flashes your car that way you get no surprise dealer updates. I guess its just piece of mind to know that the dealer is on the same page as me, they know my car is catless and they know it needs the Dinan stage II software to be happy and they are the ones that perform the work.

I will get you some videos. Driving and drive by. Just give me until this weekend... really fucking busy. I love it. It sounds very exotic... but not really high pitched. The other day my brother drove my car and when it was coming down the street I jizzed my pants... it sounds incredible.

Sorry my friend. I have had a rough 10 or so days. Car is in the shop, I will get you some videos! Hang tight.
