iDrive hates hot weather
I have the 08 older iDrive and every time I start the car when it's been sitting out in 90 degree+ heat it takes about 2-3 minutes for iDrive to "wake up". It basically shows the warning screen where you click accept but it won't let you click accept or do anything. The worst part is that if I have the volume jacked up on the radio from when I shut the car off nothing will let me turn it down until iDrive decides to finally wake up. Once it's on and in cooler weather it works flawlessly.
Anyone else have this issue or suggestions?

I have no solid info to offer, I am a very recent owner. One thought/question though for parking in 90+ often, do you use a windshield shade to possibly help reduce the heat on the dash area?

Yea I need to do that for the overall protection of the dash anyhow. Good point.

Don't think the iDrive issue is totally heat related... I have had three BMW's (545, 550 and the M3) with iDrive here in New Orleans where temps are regularly above 90 and I have never had the symptoms you describe. Could just be old age!

Maybe try starting it without the nav DVD in the DVD reader? Just a wild guess that it's taking a while bc it's trying to read the DVD that might have expanded in the heat.

Great point. I'll give it a try. It is a burned DVD also so maybe that's part of the equation. Thanks

The Nav screen in my 03 M5 started doing something similar a year ago. When it gets really hot, it will reboot over and over. During cooler weather, no problems.
