285/30 vs 285/35

Both are around ~2% difference from stock diameter. So I was wondering why so many people run 285/30 instead of 285/35? Wouldn't the ride be smoother with 35 profile? Or is it due to rubbing?

18s or 19s?

285/35/19 is too tall for the rear.

Depends on the tire brand. Many have run 285/35-19 on rear with no rubbing whatsoever. Look around. Some people say it's too tall and/or it'll rub but it won't, depending on brand..
