Hit-n-run, is my aftermarket bumper covered? Advice!

Went to a friend's house today. Parked the car outside and we were chilling in the house trying to enjoy the 49ers game. During halftime, we went out for food, and the neighbors called me over. They said they witness a hit and run and my car was damaged. Told me to check my car.

To my surprise, I was shocked to see damage. I don't understand how someone could have backed into my car. In front of my car is a driveway and the car was parked in the parking space in front of the driveway. Apparently there were painters working on another house on the same block. They witness the situation but did not get license plate. They confronted the driver but the driver ignored and drove off.

At this point, it's a hit and run. I went to the police office to make a report.
Since we didn't have description or license plate, it's basically useless at this point. Only thing we know is that these girls were on the same block and lived there. I was there for the entire night, didn't see the girls come back.

Problem? Well, I'm on a aftermarket carbon fiber bumper from arkym. Will AAA (full coverage) insurance cover this?

Cracked bumper and paint damage...

Bad day for me!

Your full coverage will cover the damage minus your deductible of course. Say you find the owner of the vehicle who hit you (not the driver if she is not the owner) and he/she has no insurance then you are covered by the uninsured motorist clause if you have that coverage on your policy. 哇靠!

Talk to the body shop and see if they will charge the OEM bumper to the insurance co and you pay the difference on the modded bumper. Say the OEM bumper is $1000 and your modded bumper is $1500, if they are willing to do it, then you just pay them the extra $500. 真煩

Good luck.

Yep. Then again, if the body shop is cool they may discount your deductible. You can negotiate that too. Call/Yelp around for a good body shop.

If you have receipts for the bumper insurance may cover it.

Insurance should cover the aftermarket bumper.

Cracked bumper and paint damage...

Bad day for me!
Most insurance companies will not cover aftermarket front bumpers UNLESS you pay extra. Having "full coverage" does not cover aftermarket parts such as this. Geico did not cover my Mugen SS CF front on my S2000 or Sorcery front on my NSX unless I paid extra which they base off the value, new. Same goes for wheels stolen.

They will pay for a new OEM/painted one and sometimes its not even OEM.

BTW that bumper has very minor damage. You will not need a new front bumper. A skilled CF repair guy can easily fix this.

Thats like $150-$200 to fix and another $200 to paint if it was my shop.
