Now this is my kind of build! Great work with the documentation of parts and dyno numbers! I think it's safe to say that your graphs prove that your intake and pullies do make some power on top of the typical catless exhaust.

Would you say the Race+ X Pipe with Akrapovic Slip On is still daily driveable?

Sweet, I love your builds. Any plans to optimize your power upgrades with a tune? Impressive power gains so far

Thumbs up

Gorgeous car subscribed. Two questions; what supercharger are you looking to install? Since you installed KW suspension, is it true that ZCP would be a waste? I am considering getting rid of my 09 to jump on a ED '12 but I want to install a KW set up but not sure if ZCP is worth it if I do.

Goes to show that considerable power can be gained without breaking the bank.

No doubt a considerable amount of power! Those numbers are on 91OCT too! It definitely looks like it's feasible to hit 400whp with a solid tune.

Very nice project...

I'm sure that you know this, but you will need to remove the UD pulleys or overdrive the supercharger to reach the "stock" boost of the blower.

Harness Bar/Racing Seats

It's been a busy month, sorry for the lack of updates.

Since the M3 primary intentions will be track duty, safety is #1 concern. Race seats and a harness bar are up next on the agenda.

Components:
- VS Motorsports Bolt-in Roll Cage
- RECARO Pole Position Seats, Black Cloth
- RECARO Slider Track Kit
- Macht Schnell Competition Liteweight Floor Mounts
- Macht Schnell Harness Receptacles
- Macht Schnell Seat Shell Adapter/Side Mounts

Being a master Recaro dealer, the seats and hardware were already in stock.

Recaro Pole Position seats were chosen for this build. Black cloth will match the speedcloth interior on the door panels, breathe easily and will last for years both on and off the track. 3-point belts will be retained for the street, a set of Schroth harnesses will be utilized at its upcoming track event next month.

Oh the hardware end, Macht Schnell had everything covered to allow a fully bolt-in installation for the Recaros, as if it were originally offered by BMW themselves. There is zero flexing - you are locked within the seat during spirited runs.

With seating taken care of, we called upon VS Motorsports in Chicago to fabricate a harness bar for us in 4130 Chromemoly steel. Weighing in at a hefty 80lbs, this is built for strength, with sharp looks following after. The harness bar is very well built and allows minimal gap between the factory headliner and main hoop.

After arrival, the harness bar was test fitted, verified and greenlighted for powdercoating. Guards Red was chosen as to closely match the AP BBK setup.

Coding was applied to remove the airbag monitoring in the OEM seats, keeping the dash error free.

M3 feels solid during spirited driving. In the end, we were able to arrive at a savings of approximately 20lbs going from a full interior to the Recaro/VS setup. There is little no no increase in cabin noise with the rear seats removed.

Nice upgrade! The cage looks great. I was just at VS Motorsports today getting some work done, they are no doubt top notch guys!

Thanks for sharing.

Gauges, Gauges Gauges....

Next up on the list are Gauges.

The M3 comes very little equipped in terms of monitoring vitals. Going to a boosted setup, three gauges come to mind:

- Air/Fuel
- Boost
- DCT Fluid Temperature

There very little space to mount gauges in the e9x chassis, we will be using the Macht Schnell Ashtray Gauge Panel for this build. Housing (3) 52mm gauges, we will always be able to keep engine vitals at a moment's glance, without being too obtrusive to the interior.

Stack is a long time respected manufacturer of data logging equipment, well known for their Data Acquisition Systems.

Components:
Macht Schnell Ashtray Gauge Panel
ST3401 Stack Wide-band Air-Fuel (Lambda)
ST3310 Stack Professional, Oil Temperature (used for DCT fluid monitoring)
ST3512 Stack Boost Pressure (-30inHg to +30 PSI)

Gauge features:

ST3401 Stack Wide-band Air-Fuel (Lambda) Features
Dual digital and radial LED displays provide accurate real-time readout of either air/fuel ratio or lambda (user-selectable). A 0-4Volt analogue output can be connected to a data-logger or to an ECU to provide real-time closed-loop feedback for improved mapping.

- User-selectable Air/Fuel or Lambda real time display
- Programmable Alarm warns of dangerous lean condition
- Peak Recall of leanest value during last run
- 0-4 Volt Data Logger or ECU output

An O2 bung was welded in for the wideband and routed to the center console in the interior.

Stack Boost Pressure Features:
- Peak Recall
- Full Dial Warning
- Pro Control High/Low Warning Set Point
- Pro Control High Over Warn Set Point
- Pro Control Low Over Warn Set Point
- Change Backlight Color
- Change Low/High Warn Color

DCT proved especially tricky for mounting the thermocouple into the fluid feed lines, however there is an upcoming solution:

Pictured is the DCT thermocouple boss from Macht Schnell, in both rapid prototype and pre-production form, we will be test fitting this soon to verify performance. Dual ports allow monitoring of fluid before or after the DCT heat exchanger.

The DCT boss mounts in sandwich block form, in between the hard and soft lines to prevent any necessary modifications to the DCT lines, making it removable at any time without trace of installation.

The second picture shows the illumination on the oil temp being a bit brighter than the boost, a resistor should take care of this and bring the lighting even across the panel.

More to come shortly.
