Wrong engine oil
My oil light came on today, so I stopped at a petrol station and topped up 1 liter of 15w-40 oil.
I now realized that the recommended oil is 10w-60! Should I be concerned about this mistake? |

Reading comprehension fail.
OP you should be fine. This isn't going to do anything as the oil capacity on this engine is quite large at over 9 liters |

You'll be fine. Just be more conscious next time.

Thanks. When I realized the mistake I wanted to kick myself!
I thought I would need to drain the oil, which would be costly. |

I went back to the petrol station and checked. I used a multigrade oil. Is that bad? If so, how do I rectify?

OP the oil you listed doesn't appear to be fully sythetic. Nothing you can do now. Just change the oil sooner rather than later |

You guys need to cut the OP some slack for asking a reasonable question in what is supposed to be the premier M3 forum, especially considering that terms differ worldwide (and the OP is posting from South Africa).
Non synthetic motor oil IS considered to be mineral oil (the process of refining a barrel of oil is to separate it into base - or mineral - oils). And is called that in other parts of the world. Chill a bit. And OP you are ok if you only added a liter or less of non-synthetic/mineral oil in a pinch. |
