Nice job coogs08, well done
Note of caution to anyone that is planning on doing this ... A) make sure no foreign particles enters the engine while you replace the fitter. make sure to cover the housing top a all times until you screw the cap back on. B) while replacing the gaskets and the "O" ring make sure there is no dirt on them and the "O" ring has no cuts. So handle with care. C) use "lint free rags" to remove excess old oil from the filter housing, or as suggested a small pump to remove the remaining old oil. Cleanliness as you all know is of prime importance.

Great vid ! Couple of things
Wont using channel lock pliers damage the oil filter cap? It looks like any other filter cap by bmw and ive had 100% success with rubber strap wrenches. I usually put the filter on the cap and then reinstall it. I always fear the filter being crushed if it is put in the housing first haha |

great video thank you!!!
quick question though - I noticed you had the car's front wheels on ramps but the rear wheels were on the ground, essentially putting the car on a steep incline.. wouldn't that impact how much oil you'll get drained out.. shouldn't the car be level when draining? |

Also to mention to the OP, get the proper size socket or use a strap wrench or adjustable to remove your filter housing....... you are tearing up the cover to the filter housing with the channel locks. |

Thank you, great write up and video. BTW, the size of the socket for the filter cover is 36mm, if anybody would like to know.

Thanks guys, it was my pleasure to help. Yes I agree that the car should be level, however I didn't have my jack & stands with me that day. And yes, definitely would be a better idea to use a strap wrench. Also thanks for telling me the socket size, elm3. I added an annotation in the video to clarify.
