I did a ton of driving around there last week, not just in Playa but deep in-country on the little highways. The conditions on the sealed roads were good. But traffic is crazy heavy and a lot of the routes are two-lane, so the opportunities to do anything but bumper-watch are limited. The speed bumps are the biggest things I've ever seen!
Didn't happen to me, but friends of mine have been hassled by the muni police -- pulled over for speeding when they weren't and told to pay the fine on the spot or take a trip to jail. Sounds scammish. Sad because the local Mayans are way too cool for stuff like that. |
