This is why I would not stoplight race a 335i.... yep, it's fast, no doubt... even stock.

Cool.

Since my S2K has more than a "little" suspension work, you might be surprised. I never talk up my driving abilities on the internet though. That can get you into trouble. Maybe sometime I'll see you at the track in SoCal

No doubt I could not beat a highly modified track car.

I was refering to taking the new M3 in the corners.

I have not driven the new M3 yet, but I don't think it will pull me through the corners or though the 1/4 mile or in the rain or in the snow or at high altitude or around town.

true but I dont buy cars to stop light race on the street. I prefer a road course. Even then, I have not yet heard of a modded 335i that can do 0-60 in 4.1 seconds. can they? so maybe I would see his side door or rear wheel - but more than just tailpipes?

I have tracked a heavily modded 420+ hp vishnu car and it was VERY powerful. also a stock Dinan car, less noticable. but my money (both figurativly and litterally) is going to the M3.

Maybe some people on this board really don't have a E92 M3. I am a very experienced driver and yes I have been following the break in runs to a point. I will only keep this car for maybe 10,000miles... I'm just very disappointed in the reactions on this board.. I joined a couple weeks ago hoping to meet some friends that have the same car so we can share story's and learn about different problems. But after reading more threads I have learned everyone just bitches at each other. I don't get it.... There was a thread where some guy wrote in CAPS and everyone tore him apart.. Maybe one day there will be a M3 forum where people can gather without the criticism. By the way, went outside and snapped this pic this AM.. Wanted to let everyone know I am a owner....
im with you man

the 335i attracts a unique market...infer what you may

i am a member of numerous forums.....6speedonline..m5board.com...mbworld...m 3forum.com, etc.........and the attitudes of those at e90post.com are amusing to say the least...congrats on the car

why selling after 10,000 miles?....disconcerting as ive really been looking for a good trade-in value for my car(06 m3....offered 41k...kbb at 52....lolol) to trade up to an e92

I agree, I only solo 1, auto-x or 1/4 @ Moroso, so let me rephrase,
down a 1/4 track, look up on dragtimes.com., modded 335's do some impressive 1/4 times.

I agree, given the choice I choose the M3 hands down, but, even I must admit the straight line speed of the 335 is impressive.

its impressive but with a considerable amount of stress placed on the car....even with a cmic, intake, free-flow exhaust some of people are being forced to part out......slowly falling apart....sure, pay to play but the reliability is heavily compromised

It's a second car to enjoy... I have always wanted a 911 since I was a kid. The Porsche dealer would only give me 31k for my 550 or else i would have a 911 S... BMW gave me 40k for my 550 on the M3 and it was the first in town so its not as common as the 911

I love my M3 and would not give it up.. I was stating that this guy in his 335 gave me a run for my money going straight... I didnt know they where that fast.

Chill. It was probably seriously chipped--considering he wanted to race you and all that. A chipped 335 will be on par if not better in the 1/4 mile. You have three options:

1. Don't drag race chipped 335s. Since you can't tell which ones are chipped, don't drag race 335s in general.
2. Mod (chip, intake, exhaust) your M3 when true mods are available.
3. Supercharge your M3 when supercharger kits are available.

(Should put you at about 510+hp's)

4. Turbocharge your M3 to get to 580+ hp. Mosselman Turbo Systems is working on this one!!!!

Talk about voiding your factory warranty

The warranty issue is getting old, mod any car and you void your warranty and that includes your M series... At the end of the day, we all still drive BMW's and not some granny car like lexus

anyone can drive fast in a straight line for 1/4 mile. what skill is involved? what fun is that?

last year I was on the track in my stock (cept the tires)four door GTI with a 400+ HP 335i behind me with all the goodies, vishnu, suspension , tires and wheels.... and he could not catch me. why? cause he put too much money into the car and not enough into the driver.

No, because everyone new to the forum comes here and thinks posting the same shit over and over again is useful. We tell them to get lost, we've read it 10000 times, they cry about respecting their opinion, whine on a 335 forum somewhere, some other joker shows up, posts the same shit, etc etc etc.

Where do you see me talking about warranty in that post? You are in a monologue.

I'm stating what the OP needs to do if he is sooo concerned about drag racing 335s. I am not, and most likely never will be...

I was directing my post to earlier posts about how the 335's warranty will be voided with any mods It sometimes seems that people forget that all cars with any mods can void their warranty.

I see. I believe those discussion are centered around the cost differential between a modded 335 and a stock M3, in which case warranty does become a cost item in the differential since the M3 stays stock. The premise there is that the two cars in that scenario would end up having about the same level of performance.

In the second scenario, which the OP seems to be concerned about, the M3 needs to have better straight line performance than the modded 335, in which case the M3 needs to be modded as well. Yes, at that point both cars lose warranty, but the M3 ends up performing better in all regards and the true price differential would probably be $15-20 higher for the M3 as FI can't be had for a few grand.

the 335i is a very fast car in a stright line, esp with a AT.
but when it comes to twisties, its over right away, or even braking or road feel.

here is my story coming from a Tuned 335i vs a M3 when i race one.
