Supercharged with least noise help

Hey guys,

I am a new M3 owner here. I purchased a completely stock 08 SG E92 from the board here about 2 weeks ago. I am coming from a FBO 335i and know little about the M3 setup. I am getting a G-Power SKII+ from a fellow member (AM1R) and will be installing this supercharger kit as the first mod to the M3. I know that the stock exhaust system will be the bottleneck to the supercharger kit and am looking at some budgetary options that would keep the noise level low while increasing the power output. I dont mind a louder tone during heavy acceleration but when im at a constant speed I'd like it to be peaceful. Thanks for any input.

Heres some pix for reference:

To be honest you won't find a budget exhaust, but make sure you change the X pipe.... If you only purchase a slip on system it would be a waste of money as you will have zero gains. Akrapovic is defo an option but very expensive.. Evolve valvtronic is another, again expensive. At the end of the day you have bought one of the most expensive chargers on the market.
I used to run the Akrapovic on my car but switched to the evolve not for difference of power but purely for sound. IMO the Evolve system sounds so much better and you also have the benefit of making it a little quieter with the press of a button.

Who is installing the GPower?

Maybe im not asking the right question. Is it possible to maybe get some x pipes or test pipes or track pipes(not sure the difference if any) that would increase my power and keep my stock exhaust to keep the noise silent?

If you want cheap, then I suggest the ACM test pipes.

Im thinking about doing the install myself at my shop as I have a car lift and also all the necessary tools. I have looked at the installation guide for the ESS kit and it does not look very difficult. Amir is giving me all the parts that are permanently modified to fit the SC and also the flash + tune file from G-Power. Any difficulties I should be concerned about?

If I were to get a test pipe would it throw a CEL? Does the G-Power tune fix the issue for smog purposes or would I also need to get the BMS DPfix?

Most likely.

As far as smog goes, good luck.

Well the flash will depend on what version of BMW software you are currently running? If its the latest then you may have an issue. Also the inter cooler is a difficult fit, the guys who installed mine managed to get it in without cutting the top of the front panel.

Test Pipes will be the cheapest option, but they will require you to cut out the OEM Cats (which means if you ever plan to sell it in the future, unless you sell to an enthusiasts you'll have a problem).

Buying just an X-Pipe (Mastermind, Challenge, Fabspeed) is probably your best option combined with the OEM Axle-Back section. You'll get all the HP gains of going catless (or HFCs), without being obnoxiously loud (majority of the noise is from swapping your mufflers out).

The Akra is an incredibly quality piece, but it's gonna run you ~$6k brand new (which isn't exactly budget). Meanwhile the Test Pipes are ~$500 and the X-Pipes I listed go from $1.4k-$2k.

The most important thing is that you get catless midpipes, the brand is not that important.
RPI gives the most whp,but sounds like crap with stock mufflers (like a 2 stroke engine)
If you have a more restictive midpipe= more mid range torque, a little less hp on top.
Less restrictive =more power on top,a little less torque midrange.

Get some test pipes and a nice axleback. That will give you power (TPs) and a better sound. I am running the Fabspeed x-pipe with HFC and resonators with a Dinan rear section. It is only slightly louder than stock, better tone, and no drone (I'm not bullshitting here either like most people do, I've had 10 exhaust setups in 14 months).

If you did TPs and the Dinan rear section, you'd have basically the same set up as me for ~$2K (if you can find a used Dinan) and you'd be very happy.
