From Italian Magazin :THE Ring at 8'

After my visit at Garching next week, after the smiling of the test pilot at my question about the Ring times, after many saying in other posts, today something seems to (again) confirm that the Nurburgring time will be really hot.
The September issue,of the Italian magazine "AUTO", very serious and oriented to be really honest in what they write, states at page 64 that they were told from BMW insiders about a very good time at the RING.
Exactly they write: BMW insiders say that the time will be really, really close to the 8' . I hope that soon this number will be confirmed.
Bye

These tempting tidbits are slowly killing me.
Sounds like it isn't under 8min, but guess it isn't higher than 8:02 judging by what they said.

Here's what the UK Press release says:

I'm not sure what that means. Close to 8:00 or just closer than 8:15, which already an 8:14 would be?

Best regards, south

Hi South:-)
Tks, I went to that dealer in Munchen, what a nice shop
About the time...at the moment I think the most official time is that told by the cheaf of the Motorsport...He said 3,54 (correct?) second faster than the m5. This means something close to 8,09 sec. After this official declaration I have only seen many articles (not only in Italy) saying that the time will be close to 8'....So what to say? This time is psycologically releavant. This could shut up many negative reports. Expecially if obtained with normal tires. I only suggest this...: why they are promoting a big official EVENT on 19-20 on Nurburgring? why to put a so big attention on that circuit? could be that they feel so proud about the results that they were able to obtain on that circuit ?and that they want to make a big event overthere,to better promote the car? Marketing.......... Still a big "Mystery"

News to me. In what interview did "He" (who's he?) say the M3 was 3.4 seconds quicker than the m5?

Richter said it in one of his interviews. Can't recall exactly which one. Search the board, cause alot of people talked about it.

The improvement in the OEM tires on the E92 M3 over those on the E46 M3 alone probably account for a 5 second/lap improvement in lap times. Michelin PS2s on the E92 are a much grippier tire than the old Pilot Sports or Contis that the E46 came with. Plus the new car runs stock 245 fronts vs. 225s in the E46.

I sure would hope the new car (with an extra 80 HP over the old car) would be able to drop at least 13 seconds on a 13 mile course.

that is true! I agree...tires make a world of a difference...i could automatically feel the difference from riding in a stock e46 m3 with stock setup...and my friend's m3 with 245/275 michelin ps2s...it was literally night and day.
