Yes, they will be going back to a V6. Just like the 2000 and 2007 M3 had in the USA.

Very difficult to tell, specially due to the fact that most of the other cars "from the competition" are (or will be V8s).... C63, S and RS4, Lexus ISF, etc. Even for the next M5 there is still speculation of a turbo V8 Vs a V10. The RS6 has a twin turbo V10 (and even the S6 has a V10) so it's not easy for BMW to downgrade engine their engine unless they are really able to produce a Turbo V8 masterpiece...... Remember that one of the selling points for the current M5 is the engine. I don't think the german power war is over....We will see. Last edited by drvai; 02-18-2010 at 05:35 PM.. |

I assume you lot mean a straight 6 given that they have never used a V6 in a M car before.
6 pot TT will be sharp make no mistake, lighter too but doubt it will have as good a sound track. |

It is not certain if it will be incline or V 6 but it will be 6 cylinders.
The engine will have use turbo, but they are not sure about the number, it can be 1,2 4? who knows? The displacement will be around 3-3.2 lt

YES!
That will make the 2008-2010 cars so much more rare and enjoyable.

I guess this means that I better move fast and either get a 2010 or 2011 BMW M3 V8 No offense intended to the V6;in-line turbo engines, but they sound so whiny rather than a monster

I'm guessing BMW will have some sensor that will brick the engine when you make more torque than you're suppose to. Come one Lemans, give is a little more!!! .

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

The 2012-2013 M3 will still be the E9x, and will still use the current V8. You can expect the F3x on the market in the US in late 2014 or early 2015 as a MY2015. And yes, as FStop humorously () points out, there will very likley be no MY2014 M3 just as there was no MY2000 M3 and no MY2007 M3 (US model designations). However, there will still be a MY2012 and MY2013, its just that they'll still be an E9x with the V8 like I said above. |
