If something happened to my M3, I am pretty sure I'd buy a new Audi TTRS.

My son thinks these are hot sh*t and I need one (or better yet he needs one - he's 19)...

You simply can't beat the performance value of a vette, and the new Stingray is a great looking package inside and out.

I was in the vette world before I came over here. We used to think the M3s were for old people...and jerks..go figure...

I would consider:

Used ZR1 Corvette or 2013 Gt500 both have over 600 hp and tons of torque. Honestly, make your M3 feel like it was slow. Also, GTR the granddaddy of them all in my opinion. CTSV sure looks good too, but in away it competes with the M3, while the others I mentioned flat out (performance standpoint) destroy the M3. Porche has a great name, performance and style but to me looks ugly with those bug eyes. Expensive and ugly don't work IMOP. For 20k less you can get the ZR1 which is faster and looks ten times better, repair costs are less too. These foreign cars with their expensive parts and high tech crap make it impossible to go off warranty. The Corvette I had I did everything myself, parts cheap, modifications cheap, no warranty doesn't matter -fix it yourself, better gas mileage also....go figure.

When I think about the price of brake rotors and other routine maintenance, I think a 335i M Sport would be good because it has power, etc. You can replace all the suspension with M parts if you want. Cost of ownership would be much lower.

But I think it would be something in the Porsche 911 line up for me. 50 miles to the gallon in a 420d sounds good too. All these are a compromise to the V8 goodness.

Dare I say, the new Boss 302 is badass.

I agree with a previous post.

Other than the obvious other v8 coupes, I think a jag f type v8 s or lotus Evora s is a good choice. That is as long as lotus doesn't go under.

Also, Aston v8, Hyundai genesis 3.8 t for something cheaper, or merc slk55 Amg or a used sl550.

I priced out a jag f-type V8 and it's about $20K more than the same optioned out m3.. they are priced way too high, for that price I'd rather buy a new GT-R.. or a used R8 V8

Evora S is in the same price range and looks real nice on paper and in pics.. A friend of mine bought one and i was envious until I saw it up close and personal.. the build quality is not anywhere near BMW..

If I had to buy something right now in the same range and not the M3, I think it's be a yellow Cayman S.. The redesign make it look fantastic..

Yo duders, first post.

Im currently in the market for either and M3 E90 6MT (preferably) or a 1m. The TTRS is something I'm seriously considering as well. Its not as much of a driver's car as the Ms, but around a track its stupidly quick. I've heard they're only a few seconds slower than an R8 around the ring.

First modification on your E90 should be a Dual clutch trans. Drops 2 tenths off your time even if your a professional driver. If on the other hand your a so so shifter, (or you don't want to practice daily)...the dual clutch trans will drop 3 to 5 tenths off your time. Don't want to start a MT VS DCT war ....just wanted to point out to the guy which one is factually faster.

I hear good things about the Audi RS5, plus the added traction of AWD. The Porsche 911 is a great choice, and if you got the scratch a used, or even new, GT3 would probably be awesome coming from an M3. The Cayman S or even the more rare Cayman R would probably suit you well also.

I always wonder why people who like the M3 and its driving dynamics push AWD turbo cars. What makes the M3 great is the RWD platform and its high revving and responsive N/A engine. The only real upgrade to me would be a GT3, not a 911 Turbo or GTR, if I was looking for similar characters of the M3 only better. Of course there's Ferrari, but that's another story. Seems like most people base their car purchases on magazine performance numbers over how the cars actually drive.

Great question. Very little answers.

What areas with your current M3 you want to try something new?

Are you looking for a better engine, more HP, torque, turbos, big cabin, vintage flair or better styling? Need more input.
