I'd take it in a heartbeat and live with the painful reminder that it's 2-3 tenths slower than the M3.

It's better than the M3 in every category and that shouldn't be a surprise considering the RS5 is being released 3 years later.

according to who...the fanboiz on this forum??
reading all the reviews, I dont see it trumping the M3 in most categories....perhaps in the "pretty seats" or "who weighs more" or shiny chrome accents category!

"this one is not as sporty.."

I mean, then what's the point of adding "R" to the S? I wanted to be convinced that it would be better than the M3...

And understeer category....

To be fair, I do remember a similar sort of tone to the M3 comparison reviews with the RS4 when the M3 was released. Basically painting the most negative light on the car that is expected to be a clear winner when it is not.

I am sure a 335i with a tune would be faster than the RS5

M3s are not 111mph cars

Do M3 owners really care about straight line speed. I thought it was all about the bends. Because if you do the 335i would have been a better buy dont you think?

Absolutely. Most of the M3 owners you see here got the car primarily because of the badge and don't have the driving skills needed to best a 328, let alone a 335. If you were to guess what percentage of M3 actually go to a track(with turns), what number would you come up with? I would guess 10-15%.

Because the fool sees that one or two cars hit 114 and chooses to ignore the other results.

Same is true for all high end car brands. A very high percentage buy for prestige, badge and image.

Having said that, having spent time here and on e90post, IMO there are far more M3 owners, as a percentage, that track their cars than 335i owners. Far more boy racers driving 335s as a percentage.

Most 335i owners want the badge and a chip to get decent stop light to stop light speed to beat civics, mustangs and C350s. Although your comment may be true to some extent, you could say the same for EVERY high end car and this will also be true for the RS5.

hmmmmmmmm, I would put my money on the M3 having the highest percentage of owners tracking their cars than any other brand/model in its class.

In regards of making a definitive statement like "....M3 owners you see here got the car primarily because of the badge" is just plain silly. Dont make such claims, it makes you appear ignorant.

10-15%? I'm guessing less than 1% of the total M out there

The percentage may be low, but I guarantee it is far higher than most other high-end brands.

I was at a track meet a few weeks ago, and I would say there were 6-7 E9x M3s out of the 40-50 cars at the track. That is a pretty good percentage.

RS5 will be sweeet. Don't really care about straight line speed, but if superchargers became available for it I'd totally get one Quite a feat I must say, the RS5 weighs quite a bit more than the M3 while being luxurious yet can post up M3 numbers! I might be the only one that thinks the premium the RS5 has over the M3 is worth it!

What's ignorant about his comment?

The fact that most owners of a car class that is badly comprised as a true track car is hard to believe?

The M3/C63/IS F/RS4 are all super sedans, but track stars they are not. Unless I missed the new 4 door race circuit.

Agree....driving Audi's for 16 yrs and had no idea how bad the handling was or how nose heavy the car is, until now. After driving the M3 for a couple of months, I sure know now. Audi= great touring car BMW= great drivers car!

IMO the RS cars from Audi should not be NA and should be Turbocharged like the old ones use to be. The current NA RS4 is a disaster IMO it is no faster than the current S4. The new RS5 while a beautiful machine should best the M3 and not just merely compete since it is a new car compared to the M3.
I love Audi's but the people at headoffice needs to get their heads out of their arse.
I would never buy a RS car because it comes out at the end of the lifecycle compared to the M3 which comes out in year 2-3. This makes no sense to own a expensive RS5 or RS4 when after 1-2years time the new platform comes out and the new S4 beats the RS4/RS5 or on par.
Audi reacts to competition. they are obsessed with one upping the competition.
They should spend more time creating their own cars by focusing on what they do well and fix what they dont do well. they have been for so many years, one step behind the competition. they should be more of a proactive company such as BMW, Porsche or Mercedes...INNOVATION, instead of reactive. When your reactive, you make mistakes, lose focus and lose your identity and you keep making cars that are always one step behind BMW!!!
sad but true! Audi has a LONG LONG way before they come close to BMW!
sorry Audi fanboiz....it is what it is!

Agreed. Though some US mags post a bit better for M3 DCT. "CAR" has 4.8 for the 6MT. I think that's fair.
