You would think due to power the E60 would also take an M3, but it runs a 1:26.2

There's no denying that MB made large advances in the full performance package with the E63 (and their other AMG cars).

It's all to do with having a connection with the gearshift since both are dual clutch, BMW have the surge and Audi have the fart.

Your loyalty is something any manufacturer would love to have but on this occasion it's very misguided, BMW have yet to produce a production car that's better, faster than the brands you have just mentioned because each of them have at least built supercars that are exceptional in their own right.

Have to agree.

I think BMW erred in not building an R8 competitor halo car.

I seriously hanker for an R8 V10 or a GT3 RS over any BMW - and I'm a serious BMW fan - but as weekend cars. But for DD's all-rounders I really, really appreciate my Bimmers.

Have to agree and it's one of the reasons why I switched to an M3 a short while ago, as a DD the M3 is extremely good.

To paraphrase Clarkson since he said it best, "if you want the best small saloon car, buy a non ZCP M3".

All of audi's v8s smell like they're farting all the time, but yes, it did sound like a fart.

I love BMW too, but that's just not true. It is often true for cars within the same performance/price class, but take a look at the Panamera Turbo, GT3, 911TT, GT2, R8 V10, SL65 and others. BMW needs to come out with a really impressive supercar (i.e. the M1), and it has to be really good for BMW to be deserving of the high praise you described. Regardless, there's no way they could build something that could touch the GT2 or the GT2RS.

I was thinking the same thing. I DO NOT see the appeal of the Audi when compared side-by-side to the BMW (..especially in motion). I found myself smiling with glee at the BMW's lines. It's such an aggressively beautiful vehicle!

Great vid South!

The track layout at Top Gear HQ favors nimble handling. Search the 06 M Roadster it did 1:26 flat on damp track as video shows. It's on YouTube. C63 Merc will have a hard time with it's weight. May not be able to beat the M3's best time.

I do agree that if they brought us a new supercar it would need to be something really special to receive the kind of praise the others enjoy, but I don't agree that they don't have the ability or knowhow to match the best of them, even the mighty GT2 or RS version. Audi have shown that even with no past history as a supercar maker they were still able to not only build a beautiful one but one which went right to the top and worthy to be compared with the best from Porsche and Ferrari. So if Audi could do it then no doubt BMW could too.

Footie what happened? Audi's will always be quicker in the wet, right? Just walk away from the keyboard, you fail as an audi fanboy.

Gotta agree with footie here. They've all made fantastic super cars.
BMW has to do the same.

The ONLY thing the RS5 (or even the RS4) has on the M3 is exclusivity.
If I spend a saturday or sunday doing errands I'll see 3-5 e9x M3s. Kinda annoying...

Exclusivity isn't #1 on my priority list. I'll gladly take seeing 3-5 E9X M3's (..or in my case, 7-10 when I'm in the L.A. area) daily.

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!
