in fact to prove my hunch.. some of these lowballers are folks hiding behind another pseudo name like //flame to fuel conversations, because they are spineless to use their regular login name

i think it's called negotiating, one of the earlier posters said it the best. You would have to be out of your mind to NOT negotiate. I would'nt even consider that a lowball, a lowball would be $35,000 cash for your m3 listed at 50,XXX.

I just bought brand new 2009 E92 M3 which was listed at $74k, and it wasn't the one I even considered buying, the one I was looking at the guy wouldn't come off of more than $2,000 on even after showing him the invoice price, explaining him why I am offering what I was. Went to the next dealership they gave me over 7k off the list.

13K is a bit much (22% difference of the original asking price) , that is classified as a low ball offer.

IMO, whether or not the offer was a lowball or not, your response to the buyer's initial offer should have been something like:

1. Thanks for the offer, but that's much less than I am willing to sell the car for. (Politely decline the offer)

2. Thanks, the car has low mileage and is in perfect condition, $57K. (Counter the offer)

I actually agree with the buyer's initial response that in your response you were being a jerk. It was not a very mature or professional way to conduct a negotiation.

If you had been polite to the guy, you may have reached an agreement you both could live with. Instead, you just added to the stereotype that all M3 drivers are @$$holes.

glad you feel that way.. plus I don't entertain lowballers. they dont need to be treated politely IMO.

they are saying "Hey I like your car, wanna have sex with me, so bend over for me. and btw Do you have venerial desease"

and you say "Fly a kite"

they reply "you're a jerk, for not wanting to be screwed"

Good heavens . . . please make this thread go away.

OP, your refusal to listen to the vast majority of sane opinions speaks volumes about your judgement. I suspect your life will be filled with conflict. Maybe you will grow up. Good luck.

I suspect that this thread will continue until the spring of 2011.. thats when I'll listen to a private offer price of $45,000 with the car having hmm maybe 19k miles

Thats the time I'll listen to your current low ball offers

and maybe by then these low ballers may have gotten a Pontiac G8 instead

There are circumstances when one can/should be offended by a low ball offer. I was trying to sell a car 15 years ago and I think I was asking for something like $12k. A guy calls and then shows up. Spends like 2 hours checking out and driving the car. Then he says everything is good (there was indeed nothing wrong with the car and I had not misrepresented it in any way), and he likes the car, and then offers me $7k. I told him he just wasted 2 hours of my time and if he wasn't comfortable with my asking price, he should have never showed up. He tried to respond with some BS argument and educate me about how much my car is worth, but I told him I was done and drove away (we were in a parking lot a couple of miles away from his car). I sold the car for about $1k less than what I was asking for the next week. However, if someone tried to present a low ball offer I am not even remotely interested in via email, I'd say whatever and just ignore it.

Sorry for dragging up an old thread, but, Jesus, what a total D-bag thing to say. I just finished reading that your alloys were for sale with 900 miles on them. Sounds like someone could a little bit underwater with their M3, and the G8s or VWs that you keep ragging on might be a little more within your grasp.
