fastest tire for autox?

Anyone have any experience with different tires to see which posts quickest lap times?

Well, I've only ever run Michelin PSCup's, but I'd consider the Hoosier A6's in the furture....as the two Corvettes that best my times are running them. I do like the fact the PSC's have some tread on them, unlike the A6's, since I don't take my track set-up off much during the summer.

(And yes, I know there's some many other factors as to why my times might be bested)

No the PSC's have been around longer than the PSS's. They have a tread wear of 80 and start at 6/32's tread depth. Different performance categories altogether.

Though I have a feeling that the PSCup's are being discontinued, as the Tirerack has only 7 sizes listed currently. (There were a number of other sizes in years past)

I run 295/30-18 and 315/30-18 Hoosier A6's. They are pretty much universally regarded as the fastest DOT tire you can use for autocross. But there are true slicks that are even faster.

The only other DOT tire that is comparable is the BFGoodrich R1-S, but the sizing isn't as favorable for the M3.

are you looking for street tires or rcomp's? For street tires, options depend on which wheels you are running, 18 or 19's.

I'm looking for a street tire that can be used on the track. Are the Hoosiers street legal?

I wouldn't drive very far on the street with Hoosiers.

The top street tires for autox are (in no particular order): Yoko AD08's, BFG Rivals, Dunlop ZII's, Bridgestone RE-11's and RE-11a's and the proven very fast Hankook RS-3's.

For autox purposes, I've had the Yok's and Hankook's, both of which I was/am very happy with. If you have 19's, your options will be limited.

In terms of dry Performance and ability to handle heat? Better. In almost all other categories, the pss would be equal to or better than those in wet handling, noise, longevity.

I have the Yok AD08's in 275/30 f and 295/30 r on zcp rims and feel they perform very well. I'm going to be trying the same tire in 255/35 and 275/35 b/c they are supposed to be a better fit for the width of the zcp rims. We'll see.

For reference, I'm at 10k miles now with about 40+- runs on them and they have life still left in them.

Garage List
Another vote for the Hoosiers a6. I run the r6 on my Lotus, and have heard nothing but great things from the m3 drivers in our club about the Hoosiers. A6 for auto-x, R6 for track days.

They are street legal but not street capable, they will wear out in no time on the street. For an actual street tire good for autocross on 19's the RS3 is probably the best bet

Ok, so for a street tire, sounds like yoko ad08 and hankook RS3 and PSS are my best bets. Could anyone rate them in terms of longevity? I'd guess PSS would be number 1 but probably last for track times

Buy an extra set of wheels and get some A6s if you're serious about autox.
