I tried it on my first track day a couple of years ago and, due to the rushed multilayered first-time install attempt on my 'black' car, it looked distinctly unphotogenic. Never used it again.

But, I'm sure it's much better than nothing. As to how much protection it'll provide... you need to consider the thickness of this film, plus the speed on the track, etc. I have Xpel self-healing clear bra on my new car, but I don't expect it to be be-all, end-all solution. I mean, if my car gets hit with big enough rock at the track... forget it.

Not sure why people have to hate. It's an option that most don't think of, but I've seen MANY people use the old school "ugly" bra with no complaints. 5 minute install and removal vs. 1-2 hours with tape or $1,500 clear bra that looks like crap once it's nicked up. I'll be sure to polish my car the next time I hit the track; didn't know you go faster if you look good. I may even comb my hair. .

NO ONE said anything about driving around with that admittedly nasty bra on all the time. Though it was a good thing I drove home with it on from Laguna Seca... .

I read the thread title... My point is that you go through the trouble of installing the "bra" for the track but then you have no protection any other time unless you leave that ugly thing on. You just admitted that it was a good thing you had it on for the ride home AND you wouldn't want it on all the time because it's nasty. Not sure why you are arguing with me on that point.... considering you seem to agree with it. (And yes I understand that more damage occurs on the track than the street). Even putting that reason aside, I still wouldn't use one for the other reasons I mentioned. I'm glad you are happy with it and I'm glad it is working well for you. Enjoy your bra, brah (Zoolander reference).

I'd have to admit, it would have been better to not have the bra on with all those bugs. They got stuck in some of the netting and took some effort to get out. They would have come right off the paint. I just go bare on the road. I have a body shop that can respray for around $300, so I figures that's 3-4 sprays before I get the cost of a clear bra. .

On the 3M Paint Defender spray, here are a bunch of reviews which are decidedly mixed:
http://www.amazon.com/3M-90000-Paint...ews/B00BSKYM82 Lot's of complaints about short longevity and difficulty removing...

If anyone is going to be at the Speedventures event at Spring Mountain Motorsports Park, I'll be there on Sunday and if I bring the E90M3 I'll have the paint shield 5720 on (look for the frozen red M3...). Lots of ifs, but I'd prefer to drive the E46M3, but it tossed the water pump last week and the parts are in transit. Not sure if I'll get her back together before Sunday...
