Master switch to limit the performance!!!!

My car will be picked up tomorrow for a 14 day trip to Dallas. As most members here I\'m a little paranoid about transporting company workers driving my car around. I was wondering what if the new M3 or any performance car come with a master switch (even dealer shouldn\'t be able to override) that lets others drive it but it limits the RPM to 4K, speed to 65 and disable most high performance functions. Wouldn\'t that give us peace of mind during transportation, service or friend driving it.

The master switch you speak of should be standard equipment....

on your BRAIN!

Just take it easy. It's not hard. Bring it up with the people in your car that you never drive like a maniac but would be willing to show them what the car can do if they're interested. That's what I do. Most people are like "ya! stomp it."

I know I know. And I'll be the first to admit it, it's more of paranoia not reality. But all those posts about dealer abuse. Rrrrrrr

Just put a couple of donut spare tires on it. That will cripple it.

Have the seller sticky tape an old Logitech computer camera to the dash. Then get a blinky red light from Radio Shack.

Finally, get on your knees and pray to the transport gods that you'll have at least 50% of the rubber left on your rear tires.

Or, just confirm pre- and post-delivery mileage. Do make sure there is a pre- and post-delivery inspection report.

Sounds like a FUN road trip, why didn't you do it?

You'll need some sort of Aftermarket ECU map for that, valet mode ftw!

Had valet mode on my last car, was hilarious to see the looks you'd get from the valet or service guy when they realized it was limited.

Your fears are real. I work for that delivery company and I'm going to flat out see what it can do. You ever wonder why they give that grin as they turn around with your keys, now you know

j/k.
it'll all work out

I remember in my old S4 with an APR chip in it. It got 3 modes of program that you can use by using the reprogram cruise control stick. One mode is the valet mode that will limit the RPM and speed. That will be the best way to control it. The other two are sports mode and normal mode.

Only way would be to have someone with a BMW tool put the car into transport mode. That should limit the car to about 30-35 mph

Or you could get an ECU tune and we can set your top speed limit / rev limit to whatever you want.

They picked it yesterday and the guy asked me "is it as fast as they say?"
I said "how fast they say it is?"
He said "0-60 in 4 seconds"
It looks like I hit a curious driver!!!!
I gave it to him with exactly 27,000 miles on it (yes I intentionally drive around a little to get it back to my garage with 27,000). I told him when I receive it, I don't want to see 27,001 and I wrote that on the invoice/inspection form.

Good move to write it down and document that. That might make him think twice about a joyride.
