I most often hear it at work...so I guess in casual situations it is pointless but I hear it enough and there is a difference in saying "that air handler runs constantly" and "that air handler runs 24-7"...the former means when it is on, it runs constantly. The latter means that it runs constantly, 24-7. This is just my personal example, I'm sure there are plenty others.

But I agree, if someone told me they were "down to get crunk 24-7" I'd probably be fighting off an aneurysm

That word is way overused. I would add to that the rest of the cuss words and slang in general as it is a lazy way to express yourself. It is also rude and often very distasteful.

• politically correct - Initially I was tired of hearing the one side use this phrase to advocate something. Now I am tired of hearing the other side use it as a disparagement. It has been way over-used on both sides.
• homophobe - It is totally disingenous that any time speech is made against homosexuality the other side replies with accusations of homophobia.
• racist - For a long time, any time something was said against Mr. Obama or his policies, the other side called it racist.
• global warming - This phrase has been so overused by one side to advocate their political agenda and then by the other side to argue about the hoax that is still being perpetrated on the public.
• Democratic Party - There isn't any Democratic Party. It is Democrat Party or DNC.
• progressive - The word progressive should be about progress. Instead, it is about a political position favoring bigger government.
• Planned Parenthood - There isn't much advocacy of parenthood in that organization. It is all about murder.
• liberal - Those who used to embrace this label for themselves now shun it, and those who use it derogatorily or as a label for a group might find a better term. It should mean something about liberty.
• radical right - This is an oxy moron if it is to describe conservatives as it is in common usage. Perhaps it is a good description for big government Republicans.
• affirmative action - Why isn't it just called discrimination to forward an agenda? What is affirmative about it? Why use the word affirmative?

I could identify other words or terms that are poorly used, and that I find to be irritating.
