335 to M3...or M4...

After reading the 'M3 migration to M4' post...The majority opinion appears to be a wait of a year or two until the bugs are worked out of the M4 before possibly moving on to the next iteration...but here is my dilemma (albeit a good one to have I guess)...and I would appreciate any input...

I moved from an F10 550i to the current 335i I have...F10 was way to numb and torquey...although super quick for its weight and size. I thought the 335 would give me more of the 'driving' feel all of you experience everyday in your M3s...and while it does do that it doesn't feel as connected as I would like...

So my dilemma...move forward with the current M3...NA V8 is appealing to me...or wait for the new M4 which will be some more powerful version of the engine I have now...

Thanks...

You're already wasting time. Get an E92 M3 and don't look back. You should have made the jump from the 550 to an M3 and skipped the 335. You can always get a new M4 in the future but you can't get a new E92 M3 two years down the road...

Personally, I would recommend a used M3 (low mileage 2010-2011); you can find some good deals out there, which will save you lots of cash in the long run, and you'd still be covered under warranty. A 2011 would take you to 2015-2016 with a warranty, at which point you can make a decision on whether to purchase an M4 or not.
That my opinion anyways...

This is an e9x M3 forum...

If the title of your thread read "Buy e9x M3 or send my children to college".. the M3 would win in the polling.

Buy a e9x m3, no bias

Maybe it's the X-Drive? I have no issues with my 2013 335i M-Sport. Love it to death and can't wait to see what the new M3 will bring.

I have an E92 335 (my wife drives it) and an E92 M3. The M3 is a completely different animal. You'll absolutely love the NA V8 and all it's awesomeness. Forget the M4 man, get that NA V8 you know you want.

Get a 2011 w/ competition package. The "driving feel" of this car is honestly one of the best parts about it. The engine and transmission are great of course, but the connection you feel to the road is something special that you can't get in most other cars. The newer BMWs will be quicker for sure, but I'm not sure there is much room for improvement in connecting the driver to the road.

You should read/watch every review and comparison test you can find. They convinced me. After 6 months of driving it I can say I agree with nearly all of what the reviews said.

You may be right about the xDrive...however, it looks like you have an M3 in the barn besides your 335...I have no doubt the new M3/4 will be great...but the engine will just be a variant of what we have now...how does your 335 compare to your M3?

Why spend money on a 5+ year old body style car since you already own one.
the new Lexus IS F-sport sounds reasonable.

This is a forum where many people have sold older M3s to buy newer M3s. The answer is always going to be get this M3.

Do you live near a track?

Then keep the 335 for a while longer and get a used E36 M3 (several always for sale in the Roundel classifieds for less than $20k). Enjoy it at the track and learn to milk it for all it's worth. Or if you're already a trained track rat, spend $25k on one of the BMW club racers that are always for sale at the BMW racing club page.

Then when the M4 is out, you will be in a good position to try out used E92s and the new M4, and pick whichever you like best. I'm assuming BMW will fix the M4 so the engine doesn't overheat and limp out at the track like the N54-55s do now. If you like the E92 better you will get it used and save some money. You can always re-sell the track car for 95% of what you paid for it.

fancy trinkets, and fake performance... You can get them in the 250 if that tells you anything

I give him the benefit of doubt and assume he means ISF.

No way the IS 250 or 350 should be considered, it's a downgrade from the 335xi with MSport.

EDIT: there's actually a IS350 "F-Sport" model coming out that's different from the current IS lineup with F-Sport accessories (the trinkets I was referring to). with 300hp, in this case it is comparable to the 335. The LFA inspired speedo is a need feature, but this car hasn't been given to the press yet for a shakedown, so not sure what to think.

In any case, OP is thinking about upgrading to the M3 or M4, not a lateral move to a 335 equivalent.

I believe there are some tracks nearby...In fact, I blame most of this on a friend/co-worker who drives a 12' M3 and has tracked for many years...

Newer body style is not always the best...and BMW rarely makes a 'radical' departure from its older body style(s)...

Someone designed those bumpers and hung them outside to dry, being made of chocolate, they of course melted in the sun. Lexus decided to use them anyway.

...and WTF is up with the LED running light placement. I get it, it winks on the 2nd gen IS headlights, but jeez, clean that ish up.

Get used to looking at it. Lexus is probably going to sell a million cars that pretty much look like this.
