Can I run full exhaust system with no tune (catless midpipes)

I only keep my vehicles for about 12 months before I sell them for a newer model or a different type of car altogether. I have a severe case of car ADD.

I simply cannot justify having a $1,000 tune on my vehicle for only a few months and not being able to sell it (having the capability of transferring it to another VIN #). It just seems a bit frivolous to me to burn $1,000 for something I cannot resell, but that is just me personally.

I wish someone made a piggyback system that I could remove and resell. Anyways..... I will be running a catless midpipe unless I find a good deal on a catted system. I will probably be running the Active Autowerk axelback or the Meisterschaft GT2.

I understand that I will be getting the CEL light which I can live with that, but my concern is I wanted to make sure that running a catless system without a tune would not harm my engine at all and I would still net positive performance gains.

You can buy something like the Akra Delete-R that you can resell. That will fix the CEL on catless midpipes.

Be careful if you are about to run a CEL all the time. If something does go wrong, you might not know beucae you always have a CEL on. (something to keep in mind)

Another thing why would you transfer the tune off your car ? once you have it you should never get rid of it. When you start putting aftermarket systems on, then get a tune. You will really notice how much better your car runs. In other words a tune is worth it, and should never gotten rid of.

lol you get a new car every 12 months losing thousands in depreciation, and mod these cars losing even more money when selling the mods and you are concerned over another $1k?

I had my Akra Evo without a tune for over a year and never noticed any ill effects. I had a Delete-R and then went without and just ignored the CEL. Now with a tune I've seen some benefits, mostly smoothing out the Evo dip, otherwise not much else changed.

Does the arka delete r thing keep the cel light from going on for other engine malfunctions?

I don't think so. The full time WB02 on the car will adjust to meet the target AFR. There is a brief period during start up that would be altered. I agree about the CEL. You could try mini cat 02 extenders like Supersprint uses, a used Akra Delete R that you would then sell, or you might be able to find a Burger DP Fix for the S65.

+1.

Anyways...I think everyone else has suggested the appropriate response on the technical issue.

I want to clear up that I have been doing this for 10 years and never sold a vehicle for more than I paid for it 12 months ago. I shop around for great deals and then keep it for 12 months or so then end up selling it for the amount that I paid for it..... moving on!!!!!

It seems as if half of you guys are saying no problem and the other half are saying that if I do not get a tune....do not even bother with an exhaust. Why would not getting a tune nullify gains through a catless system. I understand that the gains would not be "maximized" but to say gains would be null seems a bit far fetched.
Has anyone done a dyno on a full catless system with no tune?

"If you run no tune I wouldn't even bother...."..... I think that is what was said. Not quite sure what to make of that which is why I am asking!

I have run a dyno on full Evo with no tune. Gains were around what you would expect for an Evo relative to stock. Going to dyno again with the tune and see if the results differ.

I agree, I haven't dyno'ed yet but the difference is startling esp if you add the tune a few days after you're used to the exhaust (every decibel is +1hp when it's new )

I had full catless on my cts-v and as far as the smell goes..... Very seldom did it have a sulfur smell to it. Is the s65 engine especially stinky or something?!?!

You can run our catless system with no CEL thanks to our microcats. Our full catless kit is pretty well price, and we can work with you in finding the right kit to fit your desired sound!
