Understanding "Anti-Start" Mechanisms after cracked oil pan? Help?

I blew my oil pan open on a huge rock/ boulder and the car ran for about 30 seconds afterwords before I realized and shut it off. Now it wont crank. What is preventing it from cranking? Whats the fix? Simple ECU reset? A fuse? will the car not start if the oil level sensor reading extremely low?

Expert BMW tech advice needed?

i already ordered a new one or i woulda taken you up on that. Motors def fine. residual oil stays lubricating the motor for more than 20-30 secconds (if that) especially 9 quarts of 60 weight LOL...

BTW, M3s have dual oil sumps too right?

You may have popped the collision fuse located very near the positive terminal on the battery.

That was my first thought, but the car was running after i hit it, then i shut it off, turned it back on for a sec to see if it would start than immediately off...

Like as the oil drained, when the warnings started thats when the starter was disabled.

Do e92's have a safety feature like that? For Oil pressure, temp, PRESENTS LOL

I did this with a '82 300SD, lost all compression and scrapped the car, I hope you're more lucky.

I'm with Admranger. Your car would still run if the battery terminal blew after you hit the rock if the car never stalled. The alternator provides current to the ignition system. The car doesn't need the battery after you start it.

Put a volt meter on the positive cable under the hood, should tell you if the power cable is good.

I checked the collission fuse located on the battery. and the car gets power. A+, B+ Cables both are getting 12V. And Like i said after I shut it off I restarted it quickly and immediately shut it off (Before the sensors realized the oil drained or before the oil drained...Once the oil pressure and oil level sensors went off thats when the starter was disabled.

The cars at the shop and they are taking forever. I wish I had the freaking thing, I'd just hot wire the starter to do a leak down test...

The situation is the car is at my body guy and he is the best body guy Ive ever known but not a mechanic. He doesnt want to fix the cosmetic damage (or even order parts until he knows the engine is good, obviously that would result in a total loss)...

Weve been waiting for a new OEM oil pan for 3 weeks. And its frustrating bc once he realizes Im right, even though hes very fast ill have to wait another few weeks...I want to go to the shop and just show him the motors good...

How big is the crank pully bolt? Im about to bring a wrech, pull the plugs and show him thw motor turn...

He thinks its seized because the starter motor doesnt engage. Meanwhile the starter solenoid isnt even getting an ignition signal. (The motor is getting 12V constant from the 4-6 AWG starter wire.)

Will a BMW disable the starter if all sensors read NO OIL or OIL PRESSURE? If so how do you reset after repair????

Someone has to know this?

Correct, 32mm.

If you hit something underneath hard enough to crack/put a hole in the oil pan, check the ground cable from the chassis to the engine. Could be that easy. Engine wouldn't need it to continue running, but would need it for the starter. Put the voltmeter leads on the starter solenoid terminal and engine casing itself. Check voltage before pressing start button and during start button. If voltage is present before, wiring is connected. If it drops significantly during the start button press, you have a high resistance connection causing a current drop under higher current condition (such as trying to roll the starter motor).

It seems logical to me that the car may not start if it senses an extremely low oil level. It would be a good failsafe to have.

How much oil is in the car now? Any?
